ST8201-CS 881026 "'TILE COPY COPPELL PUBLIC ~ORKS ~: ~ :' I~JqOR~N~ October 26, 1988 TO: Kevin Pieffer, P.E. Ginn, Inc. ~ Steve Goram, Director of Public W°~ FROM: RE: Alternate Street Lighting - Denton Tap/S. Beltline & Denton Tap to Denton Creek Public Works has no objection to the installation of General Electric Deca-shield II Luminaires as an alternate to the Klm lights on these projects. The firs~ and foremost reason for this is the obvious savings of 58% over the Kim light~ ($11,340.00 vs. $3,220.00 per installation). Secondly, the operations and maintenance cost for the City will remain the same. The only concern is the appearance of the pole, especially after a period of time. However, TU Electric will be fully responsible for this maintenance. The paint color should be ~imilar to the existing Kim lights. As far as a general policy is concerned, I believe that this should be tried but policy should be made after practical evaluation which staff believes will come about with the installation of the Deca-shield II Luminares at the referenced locations. Staff is under the impression that this type of light does meet the Subdivision requirement under Appendix A, VI-A: "Street lighting shall conform to the latest edition of the Illuminating Engineering Society Handbook." If we can be of further assistance regarding this matter, please contact either myself or Per Birdsall at 462-8495.
