RE: AIfOrd Media~----,
Sub: City Water Utilities
B5041
Mr. Griffin:
Presently we are under constructi.on with the utilities for the above referenced project. Upon
location of the existing facilities with Mr. Larry Davis, Construction Inspector, it was found that
the existing line is 6" in lieu of the 8" as given and is not stubbed to the property line.
We purpose to do the following: 1 ) Wet tap the existing 8" line above the fire hydrant. 2) Run
an 8" line parallel to 6" line at edge of street. 3) Connect to the new 8" tine on property.
Our fire protection company has calculated the requirement for 8" to be sufficient, for the
demand required for the new facility.
Also, please find enclosed a letter from Dunnaway Associates, Inc. who has reviewed our
proposal and finds no problems in this solution. It is. to the adVantage of everyone involved.fo
proceed as proposed. This will etiminatehaving to shut down the water system to the school
and several hundred homes plus the local inconvenience of Oak Grove Road.
Please contact me at your earliest convenience with your deCision of our proposal.
Cordially,

Re: 8' Water line Replacement
Dear Ken:
It is my underatanding that you have requested that we replace the existing 6' .water
line in Oak Grove Road. I would like to recommend that rather than replacing the
existing 6' line that a new 8" line be COnstructed parallel to it. Connection could be
made wittl a tapping sleeve and valve on the existing 8'. This would prevent the loss of
service to any of the exiating residents along Oak Grove. Construction of a parallel line
would be less expensive and more efficient at provicling t~e required flow to ti'la Alfor(:l
Media Site.
Please call if'you have any questions.
Sincerely,

Dear Ken,
As you are aware, we ran our 8 inch main to hook in at Oak Grove as was specified.
After running the 8 inch line we found the City Main to be 6 inches not 8 inches as
shown on city documents.
Enclosed is a proposal from our General Contractor, Bullard Construction Company.
We feel this proposal is the most expeditious and least disruptive route to resolve this
problem. We would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter so that we can
move forward with our project.
We want to thank you ahead of time for your assistance on this matter. We look
forward to speaking to you soon.
Sincerely,
Vice President

RE: ALFORD MEDIA
DEAR MR. PEARSON,
BASED UPON OUR FIELD VERIFICATION OF THE EXISTING UTR1TIF.$ ON THE REFERENCED PROJECT
IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT ADDITIONAL WATER ]_.[NE IN OAK GROVE LANE WILL BE
REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. THE EXISTING WATER LINE IS A 6" LINE AND WILL NOT
PROVIDE THE VOLUME OF WATER REQUIRED FOR THE FIRE SYSTEM. APPROXIMATELY 380 FEET
SOUTH OF THE PROPERTY LINE THE LINE INCREASED TO 8" AT AN EXISTING FIRE HYDRANT. THE
OWNER AND THE CITY HAVE DETERMINED THAT NEW 8" LINE W'II.I~ HAVE TO BE INSTA! ~D TO THIS
WE PROPOSED TO MAKE AN 8" X 8" WET TAP BEHIND THE EXISTING FIRE HYDRANT TEE AND
INSTALL 390 LF. OF NEW 8" PIPE. AFTER TESTING AND CHLORINATION THE NEW VALVECAN BE
OPENED TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO ALFORD MEDIA WITH NO SHUTDOWN OF WATER SERVICE TO THE
RESIDENTS. THE EXISTING 6" LINE AND SERVICE WOULD BE LEFt IN PLACE RESULTING IN A
SUBSTANTIAL COST SAVING TO TIlE OWNER.
PLEASE CALL ME AT 972-237-9685 IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
SINCERELY,
