I talked to my boss about this issue, and he thinks that if you would
send us a letter indicating your intention to complete the work, and an
approximate schedule for the completion, that you could just go ahead
and deposit the check. He doesn't want to go back through our Finance
Department unless we have to.

Are you ok with us holding on this check and not cashing it until next
year? I know some entities do not car for it going into the following
fiscal year. Please let me know. We will do whatever is good for you. We
can hold it, cash it, or send back and you re-issue a new one to us in
