To clarify, I completely understand that parking (in GENERAL) creates the situation for one-way traffic flow, and while that this is often inconvenient, it is not illegal and may not be an acute safety issue. While I'd like to encourage my neighbors to park in their garages or at least their driveways, I do understand that the general parking issue is not necessarily something that can be remedied. My primary concern was specifically the parking of numerous vehicles AT THE INTERSECTION of Nottingham and Brentwood. These cars are typically parked right up to the actual intersection of the streets and drastically impair a driver's view - and I think THAT is a parking violation - so the primary resolution here may be one for CPD to address. Please note that if you visit mid-day or early afternoon, there are generally few (or no) cars parked in the area. The problem is most acute in the mornings (when I depart for work) and late evenings. At these times, these parked vehicles make turning from northbound Nottingham onto Brentwood a completely "blind" adventure - and I feel fairly confident we'll see an accident there soon if this isn't addressed. Again, many thanks for your time. Most of our residential streets are 28 foot wide from back of curb to back of curb, which is not wide enough for two way traffic to be maintained while cars are parked on both sides of the road. I will evaluate the visibility in this area and determine if the visibility causes an undo safety hazzard. If the situation warrants creating a no parking zone, we will need to bring that before the City Council for approval. I will go out there this week, and get back to you with my thoughts on the situation. If you have any questions, or want to meet me out there, feel free to call me at 972-304-3681. Keith Marvin, P.E. The numerous cars parked at this intersection (as in right up to the corner) nearly every day create a serious safety issue: the turn from Nottingham Drive onto Brentwood is completely blind, as parked cars obstruct vision in both directions. On several occasions I have narrowly avoided a collision with a car speeding (another problem) west on Brentwood while I am attempting to turn left from northbound Nottingham. Several residents in this area have teens and long-term guests (apparently), and there are many cars per household. We've addressed the problem at informal gatherings and even posted polite notes, to no avail. Can CPD please cite cars parked illegally in this area? Thank you. Also, a question: the abundance of cars parked along both sides of Brentwood Drive has created a "gauntlet" scenario for drivers, as there is only room enough for a single car to pass for much of the length of the street. Is there any way to compel residents to park at least some of their vehicles in a garage/driveway, to alleviate this annoying and potentially dangerous situation? Thank you for your time.
