Dear Mayor and City Council:
I want to express my sincere appreciation for your indulgence in
allowing myself, our City Manager, and numerous Coppell citizens -to
speak this last Tuesday night at your City Council meeting. I know we
sometimes get a good amount of our own voters that wish to speak before
Council, so it has to be patience that allows you to give another
community the chance to also speak. I know that you listened intently
and with a fair amount of concern.
However, I do want to assure you that our City will contest in every way
possible this proposed landfill site. We cannot stop the landfill if
all of the conditions based on approval are satisfied; however, we will
do everything possible to stop your applicant from using our traffic
arteries, and we will use whatever tools are necessary.
We intend to stay very much involved in this process, both at the staff
level as well as at the City Council level to ensure that our City is
protected. This issue comes at a very vulnerable time in our community
as we are discussing the benefits of our relationship with the
Metrocrest region in numerous involvements. We continue to be more
closely aligned with the region to the west of us, due in part to the
DFW Airport expansion issue, and less and less aligned with the other
Metrocrest cities.
