Carrollton-CS 890619 PARKWOOD HOMEOWNERS' ASSOCIATION PO BOX 978, COPPELL, TX 7~019 June 19. 1989 Mayor Mark Wolfe City of Coppell P.O. Box 478 Coppell, TX 75019 Dear Mayor Wolfe: Our association recently learned of tentative plans by the city of Carrollton to create a city landfill located north of Sandy Lake Rd. and Just west of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. We wish to express our great concern and dissatisfaction with this site being used as a landfill. The area of land discussed is only approximately two miles from our nearly 500 homes, which represent ten percent of the homes in Coppell. We are most concerned with the likely health problems a landfill in such close proximity to our homes would cause. We do not want our children exposed to, nor do we want to contend with, poor air quality, the probable increased population of rodents which carry with them germs and disease, or increased big truck traffic. The ground quality surrounding the landfill would also be greatly impaired. We are convinced that a landfill placed at this location would negatively impact our property values due to the above factors and also the unsightly view of a dump. No one wants to live by a dump. In addition, most of us have to drive on Sandy Lake Rd. every day. The increased truck traffic would cause traffic and safety problems and unnecessary wear and tear on a road that is already fast becoming too small for existing traffic levels. We believe that a landfill at this location is bad not only for our neighborhood but for the entire city. We urge you to take any appropriate action and every opportunity to prevent the creation of a landfill at the discussed location. We are prepared to assist in DATE: any way appropriate ff needed. Thank you for your concern for the good of Coppell and your attention to this matter. Dodd Roberts President, Parkwood Homeowners' Association Villages of Coppeli Homeowners Association June 16, 1989 Open letter to the Carrollton City Council On behalf of the Villages of Coppell Homeowners Association, I would like to protest the proposed plan being considered by the Carrollton City Council for the location of a landfill adjacent to the Northeast Boundary of the City of Coppell. Being that our homes are situated in the nearest residential community to this proposed site, we greatly fear the risk of environmental damage as well as the potential for loss of property value. It is also our concern that an increase in heavy truck traffic along an already hazardous Sandy Lake Road would further endanger the safety of motorist along that route. We would greatly appreciate any consideration given to our concerns. Sincerely, Joseph L. Brehm Pres ident Villages of Coppell HOA MEADOWS OF COPPELL HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION June 19,1989 The Honorable Mayor Mark Wolfe City of Coppell P. O. Box 478 Coppell, Texas 75019 Dear Mayor Wolfe: I am writing on behalf of the 285 concerned households within Sections 1-5 of the Meadows of Coppell Subdivision. The object of our concern is the proposed landfill that is slated to be adjacent to the northeast boundary of the city of Coppell. This proposed landfill could have a significant effect on our lifestyles as well as future property values. Since our subdivision is situated in the northeast portion of the city of Coppell, we would be one of the closest residential neighborhoods to this landfill. The members of the Meadows of Coppell Homeowners Association feel that the dangers to our neighborhood are threefold. First and foremost is the fact that access would more than likely be provided via Sandy Lake Road. Mayor Wolfe, as you know from our recent election forums, current traffic levels along Sandy Lake Road are intolerable now. We can hardly imagine what the roadway would be like with the additional truck traffic. Second, the presence of refuse dumping grounds within a close proximity to our homes would create an undesirable neighborhood situation. The detrimental influences would include: litter, unwanted animals, and odor. The last concern is the possible long term environmental effects. This is especially important since the proposed landfill would be in a direct watershed area for the Trinity River. Additionally, even the best planed landfill can turn into a superfund site if not controlled properly. This could be tragic being situated so close to our fine neighborhood. We as citizens of Coppell and the Meadows strongly urge you to fight against this proposed landfill site. Sincerely, . , ~President Meadows of Coppell Homeowners Association
