Sika AEA -15 meets the recii.4ements of ASTV C -260 for air entraining admix- tures. Applications Sika AEA -15 can b used whenever air entrained ,concrete is desired. Ready- mix, precast and black producers can all achieve optimum entrained air con- tents, even where hersih mixes are used or fly -ash is added to the mix. Advantages Durability. Atr entrainment iz recognized as the most effective prevention against con- Crete scaling in exposed environments. Air entrained concrete delivers par- ticular benefits in the form of increased concrete durabir#y. This is irnpertant in oulder climates where frost and freeze -thaw cycles can cause scaling and damage to the concrete surface. How to Use ■Air entrairing agents help to prevent scaling by creating microscopic air voids, alloying water trapped in the concrete to expand when the concrete freezes, thus preventing cracks caused by natural expansicn. Entrained air voids in the concrete will also increase durability in Harsh environments where concrete is exposed to deicing salts, marine salts and sulfates. Workability and Placeability: Workabli ty and placeabitity are also improved by the lubricating action of the microscopic bubbles in the concrete. Concrete flows better, and bleed - iN and shrinkage is reduced because less water is needed to obtain the desired workability. Dosage Dosagge rates for Silka AEA -15 will typically fall between 0.25 and 1 fl. oz. I'll 00 Ibs, (16 - 65 m11100 k9) of cement to entrain between 4 and 5 percent air, Higher air contents may be obtained by increasing the dosage rate. Dosage rates will vary depending on the air content required for a particular project. Typically air contents will be specified in the range of 4 to 6 percent by volume. Dosage rates outside the recommended range may be used where specialged materials such as microsilica are specified, extreme ambient con- ditions are encountered or unusual project conditions require special con- sideration. In this case please contact your local regional Sika office or Sika tachnicai service department at 1 -800 -933 -7452. for further information. {lather factors that may affect the amount of air entrained into the concrete include. but are not limited to; total cementitious content, type of poxzolanic materials, sand gradation, temperature and water content. Sika recommends that trial mixes be performed whenever material or any other changes are made that may affect the amount of entrained air. Mixing Measure the required quantity per batch malnually a with automatic dispenser equipment, Add Sika AEAi -'15 to mixing water or sand.. Do not mix with dry cement. Wh0n used in combination with father admixtures, care must be taken to dispense each admixture separately into the mix. 60 Combination with Other Admixtures- Combination with ether admixtures, particularly water reducers and retarders, may increase the amount of entrained air in the mix. Air contents should be ch€cked with an air- rneter after 'belching and +dosage adjustments made at the concrate plant. Packaging 51ka AEA -15 is available in 55 gallon drum (2Q8 liter)r 275 gallon gates {1044 liters} drums acid hulk delivery. Plast, orrete 161 meets the requirements of ASTM CAg4 Types A. 8 and D. Pkastocrete 161 is recommended for use in all applications where high quality concrete with superior workability is required. PIastocrate 161 water reducing admixture provides an economical and highly effective means cf reducing the amount of mixing water required to produce concrete of a certain slump by acting as a dispersant for the ccmcnt particles in the mix. Through this dispersing action mare of the surface area of the cement particles is available for early hydration. The more cement particles hydrated by contact voith the mixing water, the greater the compressive strength of the concrete. Plastocrete 161 is formulated as a Type Awater reducer to allow up to 10% wafer reduction and maximize the benefits of increased hydration in both the hardened and plastic states, a Reduced water content required to achieve desired slump, increases campressive and flexural strengths and allows the use of more economi- cal mixes. • lrriproved paste quality makes concrete easier to pump and finish. • Consistent normal setting t7mes throughout the recommended dosage. • Lower water cement ratios provide decreased permeability and increased durability, • Pilastorjete 161 does not non tall n 'Intentionally added chlorides and will not initiate nor promote the corrosion of steel in the concrete. Dosage rates will vary depending an the material used, ambiennt conditions and the requirements of a specific project. For general concreting applications, 6ika recommends a dosage rate betNeen 2-4 fl. oz.1100 Ills. (130 -260 mV100 kg) of cell rrtitious materials for normal setting ctraracteristics. Dosage rates of 4-5 fl. oz. 1100 lbs. (260 -390 mY100 kg) of cementNous materials are recommended for applications where higher water reduction is needed as Drell as extended workability and prolonged setting tunes_ Dosage rates outside the recommended range may he used where specialized materials such as microsilica are specified, extrema ambient conditions are encountered or unusual project conditions require special con- sideration. I n this case please contact your local regional Silra office or Sike technical service department at 1- 800 -93 &7452 for further information. M M Fixing Plastocrete 161 is added at the concrete plant. Measure required quantity manually or by automated dispenser: Add into the water line at the batch plant or to the mixer at the end of the hatching cycle. Combination with ether Admixtures: Plastacret,e 161 works effectively as a siricgle admixture or in combination with ether admixtures in the Slka System. When air entrained concrete is specified, Silica recommends the use of Sika air entraining admixtures. When used in combination with other admixtures, care must be takers to dispense each admixture separately into the concrete. MUM III USA, PrMABd h 1154 Product Data Sheet Edition 12.2005 Identification no. 180 -540 Sikerr ent 886 SikamenVl 686 Technology High Range and Mid lunge Water Reducing Admixture 1m Sikament 656 is a high range water reducing admixture utilizing Sika's Visco- Crete Technology. It's unique formulation is based on polycarbvxylate technology, Sikament 686 meets the requirements for ASTM C494 Types A and F. Sikament 6,88 is ruwmrnerded for use in the production of all high strength concrete products, whenever high plasticity and increased early and ultimate strengths are desired. The superplasticizing action of Sikament 6W pro ides excellent workability at low water cement ratios. High Range Water Reducing Appttcadons: When used as a high range wa- ter reducing admixture, water reduction up to 30% can be attained. The su- perplasbulzing action allows for the production of high slump flowing concrete with excellent workability that can be placed with minimum vibration even at a law waterlcement ratio_ The dispersing action of Sikarrient 686 maximizes cement hydration efficiency and irnproves concrete's early and long term com- pressive strengths. Mid Ranges Water Reducing a4ppliaettion5: At a lower dosage, SAcament 68£ can be used as a cost effective mid range water reducing admixture or simply as a wager reducing admixture for production of conventional slump concrete. When used as a mid range outer reducing admixture, water reduction up to 16% can be obtained. This application is ideal for use with lean, harsh con- crete mixes or concrete containing flyash. Sikament 666 will improve workability and finishabitity. The c( rmbined water reducing and superplasticizing action provide the follow- ing benefrts: ■ Higher early and ultimate strengths for cost effective high strength con- crete and earlier structural use of concrete. ■ Higher early strengths allow faster demalding and more efficient use of farms to precast producers_ ■ Increased slump improvers workability and reduces labor costs. ■ Full flow action aids in pumping and reduces need for vibration. ■ Greater concrete density reduces permeability and increases durability_ Sikament 686 dads not contain calci um chloride or any other intentionally added chlorides and will not initiate or contribute to corrosion on steel rein- forcement present in the concrete. se - Dosage rates will vary depending on the material used, ambient conditions and the requirements of a specific project, Far general concreting applications, Sika recommends a dosage rate between 3 -12 fl. oz. 1100 lbs. (195 -780 rn11100 kg) cementitious materials. If maximum water reduction is required, dosage up to 18 fl.oz.1100 Ibs. (1170 mU190 kg) of cementitious materials may be used. In this case, delayed setting times may occur Dosage rates outside the recommended range may be used where specialized materials such as microsiliva are specified, extrame ambient conditions are encountered or unusual project conditions require special con - sideration. In this case please contact your local reglonal Sika office or Sika technical service department at T- O- 933 -7462 for further information. Mixing For hest plasticizing results, Sikament 6% should be added directly to freshly mixed concrete in the concrete mixer at the end of the batching cycle, Sikament 686 may also be dispensed as an integral material during the regu- lar admixture batching cycle, or into freshly mixed concrete in a Ready -mix truck at the concrete plant or job site. To optimize the superpiasticizing effect, 8ika recommends that the combined materials be mixed for 80 -100 revolutions, either in the concrete mixer or in the Ready -Mix truck. Combination with other Admixtures: Sikament 686 is highly effective as a single admixture or in comb inalion with other admixtures in the Sike System, If used in combination with certain Sikament high range water reducers, it may affect the plastic properties of fresh concrete- Pleases contact your local regional office cr technical service department at 1 -80D- 933 -7452 for further information. Combination with Microsilica: Sikament 586 is particularly well suited for use With Microsilica because of its water reduction capability, Packaging Sikament f186 is available in 5E gallon drum (208 titer), 275 gallon totes (1X46 liters) and bulk deliv+ary. Storage and Shelf Life Sikament 686 should be stoned at above 4WF (5"C). If frozen, thaw and agi- tate thoroughly to return to normal state. protect frarn direct sunlight. Product Data Sheet Edition 09_25.2009 tdrantification no. 147 -640 Sika Air SikaO Air Air Entraining Admixture [description Sika Air admixture is an aqueous s€ilution of organic materials. Sika Air meets the requirements of ASTM 0 -260 for air antraining admixtures. Applications Sika Air is recommended for use whenever air entrained concrete is desired. Ready -mix, precast and block producers can achieve predictable and uniform entrained air contents in concrete, even where harsh lean mixes are used or fly -ash is added to the concrete. Advantages Durability: ■ Air entrainment is recognized as the most effective prevention against con - crete scaling in exposed environments. Air entrained concrete delivers par- ticular benefits in the farm of increased concretes durability. This is important in colder climates where frost and freeze -thaw cycles can cause scaling and darn age to the concrete rfaqe ■ Air entraining agents help to prevent scaling by creating rnicrosccpic air voids that water trapped in the concrete oan expand into when the conc rate freezes, thus preventing cracks caused by the natural expansion. Entrained air voids in tha concrete will also increase durability in harsh environments where concrete is exposed to deicing salts, marine salts and sulfates. Workability and Ptaceability: Workability and placability are also improved by the lubricating acfi.on of the microscopic bubbles in the concrete. Concrete will flow better, and bleeding and shrinkage will be reduced because less water is needed to obtain the desired workability. How to Use ❑rssage Dasage rates for Sika Air will typically fall between 0_5 and 3 fl. oz. per 1 D0 lbs. (32 -195 rni(I 00 kg) of cementitious to entrain between 4 and 6 percent air_ Higher air contents may be obtained by increasing the dosage rate. Dosage rates will vary depending on the air content required for a particular project, Typically air contents will be speciified in the range of 4 to S percent by volume. Other factors that may affe?ct the amount of air entrained into the concrete including total cementitious content, type of pczzolanic materals, sand grada- tion, so tfclay in egg regetas, temperature and water content. The use of fly ash, particularly high t-CI fly ash, can result in a higher dosage of air entraln- ment. Sika recommends that trial mixes be performed whenever material car any other changes are made that may affect the amount of entrained airr In mixes requiring a lower or higher amount dosage rate, please contact your local regional Sika office or Sika technical service department at 1- 800 -933- 7452 for further information. Product Data Sheet Edition 10,2005 Identification nc. 181 Plastocrete 161 PIastocreteO 161 Water Reducing Admixture Description Plastocrete, 161 is a lignin polymer -type water-reducing admixture. Plast "rete 161 meets the requ irernants of ASTM 0-494 Types A, 43 and D. Applications Plastocrete 161 is recommended for use in all applications where high quality concrete with superior workability is required. Advantages Plastocrete 161 water reducing admixture provides an economical and highly effective means of reducing the amount of mixing water required to produce concrete of a certain slump by acting as a dispersant for the cement particles in the mix. Through this dispersing action more of the surface area of the cement particles is available for early hydration. The more cement particles hydrated by contact with the mixing water, the greater the compressive strength of the concrete, PIastocrete 161 is formulated as a Type A water reducer to altow up to 1Oi'0 water reduction and maximize the benefits of increased hydration in both the hardened and plastic states,. ■ Reduced water content required to achieve dosi red slump, increases compressive and flexural strengths and allows the use of more economi- cal mixes. ■ improved paste quality makes concrete easier to pump and finish- 9 Consistent nuFinal seltingl times throughout the recommended dosage. ■ Lowe rwater cement ratios provide decreased perrneabilN and increased durability. ■ Plastocrete 161 does nowt contain intentionally added chlundes and will not initiate nor promote the corrosion of steel in the concrete. How to Use Dosage Dosage rates will wary depending on the material used. ambient conditions and the requirements of a specific project. For general concreting applications, 5ika recommends a dosage rate between 2-4 fl. oz. 1100 lbs. (130 -26D mIII OQ kg) of cement`tious materials #or normal setting characteristics, Oosage rates of 4-6 fl.oz.1100 lbs. (260 -393 m11100 kg) of cementitious materials are recommended for applications where higher water reduction is needed as well as extended workability and prolonged setting times. Dosage rates outside the recommended range may be used where specialized materials such as mi+crosilica are specified, extreme ambient conditions are encountered or unusual project conditions require special con- sideration, In this case please contact your local regional 51 k office or Sike technical service department at 1 -a 0 D-93 3-7452 for further information. Mixing Plastocrete 161 is added at the concrete plant. Measure required quantity manually or by automated dispenser. Add into the water line at the batch plant o to the mixer at the end of the batch1ng cycle. Combination with other Admixtures: PIastocrete 161 works effectively as a single admixture or in combination with other admixtures in the Silva System. When air entrained concrete is specified, Sika recommends the use of Sika air entraining admixtures. When used in combination with other admixtures, care must be taken to dispense each admixture separately into the concrete, Do not mix with dry ca- ment. Packaging Plestocrete 161 is supplied in 55 gallon (208 liter) drums and bulk delivery. Storage and Shelf -life Plastocrete 161 should be stored at above 407 (5 °G), if frozen, thaw and agitate thoroughly to return to normal state before use. April 2011 Ready Mix Concrete Page i of 7 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET SECTION 3 —HAZARD IDENTIFICATION Emergency Overview, Concrete Is a light gray fluid mixture that posts an immediate hazard to eye tissue. Exposure of sufficient duration to wet concrete can cause serfous, potentially irreversible tissue (skin or eye) destruction in the form of chemical (causticl erns, including thind degree burns. If footwear or cloth Ing becomes saturated with wet concrete, remove irnmediateiy and wash area witb water and mild soap. Co not allow prolonged contact. Potential Health Effects: Relevant routes of expasure are: EYE CONTACT and 5KIN CONTACT: Effects Resulting from EYE CONTACT: Exposure to wet concrete may cause Immediate or delayed irritation or inflammation. Eye contact by splashes or wet concrete may cause effects ranging from moderate eye irritation to chemical burns and blindness. Such exposures require immediate first aid and medical attention to prevent significant damage to the eye. Effects Resulting from SKIN CONTACT: Discomfort or pain cannot he relied upon to alert a person to a hazardous skin exposure. Consequently, the only effective means of avoid Ing skin injury or illness involves minimizing skin contact, particularly contact with wet concrete. Exposed persons may not feel discomfort until hours after the exposure has ended 2nd significant injury has occurred. Exposure to moist or wet concrete may cause more severe skin effects including thickening, cracking, fissuring of the skin. Prolonged exposure can cause severe skin damage in the form or (caustic) chemical burns. Effects Resultingfzom INIHALATION: Concrete may contain amounts of crystalline silica. Prolonged exposure to respirable free crystalline silica may aggravate other lung conditions. It may also cause delayed lung injury including silicosis, a disabling and potentially fatal lung disease, and/or other diseases. (Also see "Carcinogenic Potential" belOW.j Respirable expa5ure to silica in concrete may ¢ccur only if concrete is drilled, cut, ground or polished. Exposure to concrete dust may cause irritation to the moist raucous membranes of the nose, throat, and Upper respiratory system. The dust may also leave uriplea5ant deposlu in the nose. Effects Resulting from INGESTION: Not Applicable April X011 Ready Mix Concrete Page 2 of 7 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET • Chronic Effects Some individuals may e.Khlblt an allergic response upon exposure to ready -mils Concrete. The response may appearin a variety of forma ranging from a mild rash to seveie skin ulcers. Persons already sensitized may react tb their first contact with the product. Others may first experience this effect after years of contact with ready -mix concrete. Minimizing contact with skin is the basic protection to reduce this exposure. • Carcinogenic PaUntllal Ready Mix Concrete is not listed as a carcinogen by NTP, OSHA, or .IARC. It may, however, contain trace amounts of su bstancies listed as carcinogens by those organizations. Crystalline silica, a potential trace level contaminant in Portland cement, is found in the aggregate components in varying percentages and Is dassified by IRAC as a known human carcinogen (Group ij- NTF has characterized Respirable silica as "reasonably anticipated to oe [a] carcinogen ". • Medical Conditions That May Be Aggravated By Inhalation or Dermal Exposure. Pre- existing upper respiratory and lung diseases. Previous exposure to dust from hardened product. Unusual or (hyper) sensitivity to hexavalent chromium (chromium ( +5)) salts. SETION 4 —FIRST AID MEASURES • Eyes Immediately flush eyes thoroughly with water. Continue flushing for 15 minutes, including untlerthe lids, for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately. + Skirt Wash skin with waterand pH neutral soap or mild detergent intended for use an skin. If clothing or foahvear is saturated remcsve immediately and wash Brea with water and mild soap. if contact has been severe enough to cause reddening ur actual burns to skin, place sterile bandage on area and seek medical attention. ■ I inhalation inwetform, concrete cannot be inhaled, Ingestion In wet farm, concrete is unlikely to be ingested.
