Submitted herein are results of our analysis of the pavement
subgrade at the above referenced site. The exposed pavement
subgrade was sampled and six (6) typical subgrade samples were
obtained. Atterberg-limit tests were performed on two (2)
representative samples and a lime series was performed on the
most plastic material . Results of the Atterberg-limit tests and
the lime series are attached to this report .
Based on visual observations of pavement subgrade and results of
the Atterberg-limit tests and lime series it is recommended that
the subgrade along all streets be stabilized with a minimum of
4 . 5 percent (20 lbs per square yard for 6 inch thick compacted
depth) of hydrated lime (by dry soil weight) to reduce the
plasticity index of the exposed material to 15 or less . The rate
of application is based on a dry unit weight of 98 . 8 pcf (by
ASTM-D698) for material consistent with the lime series sample.
However, a minimum of 30 lbs per square yard per 6 inch thick
compacted depth of hydrated lime (by dry soil weight) would be
required to satisfy the minimum requirements of City of Coppell
Standards and Specifications for stabilization of the subgrade
along all streets .
All mechanical stabilization should be performed in general
compliance with the City of Coppell Standards and Specifications .
