DIR. INITIALS: \~ FIN. REVIEVV~.~ CITY MANAGER REVIEW: Agenda Request Form - Revised 3/98 Document Name: #eng2 MEMORANDUM FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING To: Mayor and City Council From: Ken Griffin, P.E., Director of Engineering and Public Works ~ RE: Consider approval of Change Order #3 for the Wagon Wheel Ranch Elevated Storage Tank Project #WA 96-01 in the amount of $47,600 to Landmark Structures, Inc.; and authorizing the Mayor to sign. Date: September 8, 1998 During the initial design of the elevated storage tank project, provisions were made to provide additional storage inside the base of the elevated tank to accommodate storage required by the Utility Division such as meter storage, surplus supplies for projects, etc. Drive-in doors were placed on both ends of the elevated tank to off-load materials from vehicles. Also, a metal grated floor about 40 % of the ground floor size was provided for additional storage. A one-half ton crane was provided to place items on the second level. During construction the contractor, Landmark Structures, Inc., has proposed to eliminate the partial grated second floor and one-half ton crane and replace it with a full concrete floor and one-ton crane. The crane is necessary to lift heavy objects to the second floor for out-of-way storage. There would be a hatched door proposed through the concrete floor to access the second floor. As the project was originally bid we had approximately 1000 square feet of storage on the grated second floor. With this change we will have approximately 3000 square feet of storage on the second floor, an increase of about 2000 square feet. As of this date, I am unsure of how the additional footage would be utilized, however, storage is at a premium within the City. Our current elevated storage tank on Southwestern Blvd. is being utilized for storage for various departments such as the Police Department's confiscated and found property, surplus furniture, auction items, etc. and is currently maxed out on storage capacity. Because this is a one time opportunity to create additional storage inside the elevated storage tank for future storage of supplies, meters, etc., staff recommends approval of Change Order #3 in the amount of $47,600 and will be available to answer any questions at the Council meeting.
