Golden Triangle MHP-CS121205Mike, Below are the results of the brief assessment conducted by Sgt. Barton’s teams. It seems there may actually be some opposition to more lights at 550 Ruby, however it appears that 301 S. Coppell is indeed in need of additional lighting. Please let us know what else we may do to follow-up. Matt From: Danny Barton Sent: Tuesday, December 04, 2012 5:17 PM To: Matt Kosec Subject: Golden Triangle and Oak Park MHP Officers Odean and Walker volunteered to do the audit of both parks. Both Officers did their audits independently of each other. Here are the findings: Both Officers spoke with residents at the 550 Ruby Rd location. Officer Odean spoke with a resident who lived in one of the few well lit areas of the park. The resident voiced displeasure with the brightness of the light. In fact he is currently using blackout curtains with minimal effects at night. Officers noted that the light this resident was referring is much more bright than any other lights in the park. This light is located in the northeast part of the park. Officer Walker spoke with a family who was sitting on their porch in a very low lit area of 550 Ruby Rd. The family told Walker that they felt the lighting in the park was fine. They also advised that they would not want additional lighting for the same reasons the resident Odean spoke to voiced. They did, however, think that the lights that were currently not working should be repaired. Both Officers observed two non working lights in the 550 Ruby Rd park. Overall, the park at 550 Ruby Rd. has pockets of good lighting. If the lighting continues to deteriorate, the possibility of increased crimes will increase as well. Many of the mobile homes had exterior lights on which provides additional lighting to the area. Officers believe that residents leave those lights on for reasons. This observation left both officers with the impression that at a minimum, the existing lights need to be repaired and a possibly additional lighting may be required. Additional lighting would have the possibility of interfering with quality of life for the residents, therefore, surveys of the residents might better indicate the need. The park at 301 S. Coppell Rd has very little lighting at all. The parks lighting is predominantly from poles located around the outer perimeter of the park. Again, Officers observed many trailers with motion sensor exterior lighting. Calls for service in the park are very low, however, the residents are using their own exterior lighting for a reason. Officers suggest that residents be surveyed by the management to determine if additional lighting is something that residents would feel more secure with. Overall, lighting is an important component of community safety. A proactive approach to the current situation may prevent future problems if the locations continue to deteriorate. That's our quick assessment.
