As you know, we are now in possession of the initial pond siltation study of November 2, 1995
and Addendum No. 1 to the study dated November 30, 1995. From a lay perspective, we have
found the study helpful, but nevertheless confusing on some points. Moreover, certain
components of the Addendum seem to quantify and describe the sediment buildup in a way
that apparently understates the problem compared to what is visually observable by anyone
standing at the pond's shoreline. Since the buildup has clearly occurred from drainage
effluence, we feel it is a critical issue, and therefore one which all parties should fully and
accurately comprehend. To that end we would like to make the following suggestions for our
8:00 a.m. meeting on Saturday, January 6, 1996.
· We feel that Ken Griffin and a representative from Patton, Burke & Thompson
(hopefully the engineer primarily responsible for the study) should attend this meeting.
· We would like to review the report (and the Addendum) with Patton, Burke &
Thompson to clarify their findings and discuss ramifications.
· We suspect that a "site visit" to the pond would likely be helpful to confirm our
common understanding of locations, depths, etc..
· We would like to continue the discussion begun at the last meeting, i.e., the cause of the
sediment buildup to date, the required remedial action and responsibility therefore,
and how similar problems resulting from future Town Center development can be
avoided.
Jim, issues related to the functional and aesthetic vitality of the pond are of major concern to
the residents of Chaucer Estates. We want to thank you and Ken Griffin for your efforts to
date and the candor with which you have addressed our questions and concerns. We will see
you on the 6th. Thanks again.
