Ion the above date, representatives from SAM Engineering & Testing, LIP, perforemed the following testing & inspection services:
1. Performed a lime series test on a bulk sample obtained from: (A) consisting of reddish yellow mottled light gray silty
CLAY with some/much fine sand & trace of F.M.C, river gravel. (B) consisting of dark & light brown, mottled light gray
silty CLAY with some/much fine sand & trace of F.M.C. river gravel.
The following results were obtained:
(A) • Initial:
LL = 34
PI = 18
USCS = CL
• +2% Lime
LL = 37
PI = 14
USCS = CL
• +4% Lime
LL = 36
PI = 10
USCS = CL
* +60/o Lime
LL = 34
PI = 4
USCS = ML
(B) - Initial: LL = 28 PI = 13 USCS = CL
• +2% Lime LL = 29 Pi = 9 USCS = CL-ML
- +4% Lime LL = 30 Pi = 6 USCS = MIL
2. Based on the above data and our experience, a 2% or approximately 12 lbs per square yard per 8" depth is considered
suitable to reduce the subgrade solis to less than 15% as required by the N.C.T,C.0 G.4 & 1.
3. The city of Coppell requires a minimum of 40 lbs of lime (6.666%) to be mixed with 8" thick first and 6" thick after.
