Re: Wagon Wheel Ranch Elevated Tank
Geotechnical Investigation
Dear Mr. Griffin:
We have completed the geotechnical investigation of the Wagon Wheel Tank Elevated Storage Tank Site and
are enclosing three copies of the report for your files. Henley Johnston & Associates, Inc. assisted us in this
aspect of the project.
The report indicates this site is suitable for construction of the proposed 2 million gallon elevated tank if
proper foundations are constructed. In general, the tank contractor must either construct straight-walled
concrete piers which extend at least 2-feet into the light gray unweathered sandstone at a depth of
approximately 50 feet, or construct drilled and underreamed piers based in the hard silty, sandy clays at a
depth of approximately 20 feet. The pier underream diameters are recommended not to exceed 8-feet in
diameter. The report suggest that the floor slab and grade beams can be constructed directly on the soil
surface due to expected dead loads exceeding anticipated swell pressures. Other recommendations are
presented in the report relative to paving, drainage and earthwork requirements. We are incorporating these
recommendations into our final design of the site.
We will bind a copy of the complete report into the project specifications and bidding documents for the
contractor's use. We are available to discuss this project further at your convemet
