JUL. 7. 2004 8:56AM NAT'L WATERWORKS DALLAS NO. 4032 P. 1 .4111,MOR . 011, PROTECTO 401 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS Protecto 401 was developed 21-years ago. The first lining was installed in 1981. Since then, hundreds of miles of ductile iron sewer systems have been lined with Protecto 401 with no lining failure. Designed and used as protection for ductile iron sanitary sewer systems, it provides the reliability of cement mortar lining with the excellent corrosion protection of novalac epoxy. Protecto 401 is applied to the interior of ductile fittings with specialized application equipment, to a nominal 40 mils thickness. Nondestructive pinhole detection and thickness tests are performed to ensure a sound, chemically resistant protective lining. Note: Protecto 401 is intended for use in domestic sanitary sewage lines. Chemical injection for odor control may damage pipe, gaskets and/or protective linings and should be undertaken with extreme caution. STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR LINING DUCTILE IRON FITTINGS FOR SEWER SERVICE 1. Lining Material The lining material shall be an amine cured novalac epoxy containing at least 20% by volume of ceramic quartz pigment, and shall demonstrate the following properties: a. ASTM E 96-66, Method A Procedure A (Permeability)- Permeability rating of 0.0 after 30 days. b. ASTM B 117 (Salt Spray)- 0.0 undercutting after two years. c. ASTM G 95 (Cathodic Disbandment) 1.5 volts @ 77degrees F- Results to equal no more than 0.5 mm undercutting after 30 days. d. ASTM D 714-87 (immersion Testing): 20% sulfuric acid- No effect after two years. 140 degrees F 25% sodium hydroxide- No effect after two years. 160 degrees F distilled water- No effect after two years. 120 degrees F tap water- 0.0 undercutting after two years. e. European Standard EN 598:1994 Section 7.8 (Abrasion Resistance)- No more than three mils (.075mm) loss after one million cycles. 2. Certification Each fitting shall be marked with the date of application of the lining system along with its numerical sequence of application on that date. Records shall be maintained by the applicator of his work. 3. Handling Protecto 401 lined fittings must be handled only from the outside of the fittings. No forks, chains, straps, hooks, etc. shall be placed inside the fittings for lifting, positioning or laying.
