Attached to this memo is correspondence from Howard Pafford concerning the DeForest Lift
Station odor complaints. This complaint list covers October 1994 to September 1995
(approximately 11 months). During that time frame, there have been very few complaints, the
majority being from two individuals, Steve Houghton and Mark Siepiela. Howard continues to
work on the lift station and in my opinion is doing a tremendous job in reducing the complaints
of odor at the lift station.
Howard has been responsive to the Lake Park Addition citizens both in responsiveness to their
complaints and in sending out periodic letters updating them on the status of the work at the lift
station. Also, we are in the process of completing the landscaping around the lift station and
have already received some unsolicited compliments from residents in Lake Park Estates on the
aesthetics of the landscaping. It is our hope that the landscaping will also aide in the reduction
of some odor from the lift station. .~
Howard has other ideas and is continuing to explore various options to be innovative in
addressing the problem of the odors. If you should have any comments concerning this

RE: Deforest Lift Station Odor Complaints
As per our discussion this morning,I informed you that I have
received several complaints over the past three weeks regarding
the odor associated with the Deforest Lift Station. Attached you
will find an updated list of these complaints.
As we discussed, it is my intention to reduce the odor problem as
much as we possibly can. Therefore staff will be making changes
to operations and maintenance functions as complaints are
received.
Some of the changes we have made in this function are;
*Washing down wet well with a grease cleaning solution,
*Changing odor masking agents to determine what is best,
*Keeping the wet well fluid circulated more often during
pumping cycles.
If you have any questions regarding this matter,please advise.
