WA9601-CS 970102TO; Mike Morton Ken Griffin FROM; Matt Cast ~ SUBJECT; The Wagon Wheel Ranch Overhead Tank (Water Tower) DATE; January 2, 1997 After reviewing the referenced project No. XX-XXX, also known as WA 96-01, several items need to be clarified. In addition, a set of the water vessel or water tank plans needs to be reviewed to see if all needs and aspects of the City of Coppell will be addressed. The following are a few items that should be considered when addressing the new tank: 1. Additional conduit needs to be added from the property line to the tank itself. By doing this, the ground excavation is eliminated in future digging. 2. The overhead walkway needs to be increased in size. A heavier material that would accommodate an antenna that the Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments may utilize in the next twenty years needs to be considered. Another alternative would be to have an outside company lease it to run telephone or radio service for the future. 3. When draining the tank, a bypass gate valve needs to be placed inside the bowl to drain the entire remaining amount of water that may be below the drain pipe. (No water shall be dumped out of the tank to the ground below. All water shall exit the overflow pipe.) 4. A Rate of Flow Control device shall be sized to take the flow with a minimum amount of wear on the Rate of Flow Control device itself. 5. The Rate of Flow Controller shall have a bypass equal in size to the bypass unit when the Rate of Control is not operational. If the RFC is a motorized gate valve, an additional chassis top or bonnet should be included as an additional part for the repair of RFC for future years of operation. 6. If a manway is used in the bottom of the tank that is elliptical in shape, two (2) pair of cross legs will be needed for future use. 7. All ladder catwalk overflow box handrailing inside the tank shall have extra heavy-duty dipped galvanized finish. 8. The S.C.A.D.A. system needs to be placed in a designated protected area (for example, under the platform), protected by walls with plenty of light. 9. If possible, the dry well going through the water tower itself should have a vent for a hatch door that would permit sunlight to enter the dark dry well area. If this could be incorporated, another step in safety ~ractices could be achieved. 10. A telephone line is needed for the operation of the system. Please keep me informed of the wishes and opinions of the department.
