Inc. was present at the above referenced site. The purpose of our visit was to observe pond liner construction. The following observations and re, commendations were made or am warranted at this time. 1. Bottom of pond covered with sandy soils and water 2. Large backhoe with 5' bucket was b~ing used to excavate a key at the interface betwean the sidewalls and floor of the pond. 3. Recommended the sidewall pond liner extend into the shale at the bottom of Pond. If the sidewall pond liner is extended and keyed into the shale, it is not neccssa~' to remove sandy soils in the bottom of the pond. 4. Re, commanded adequate compaction and moisture content of backfill soils used to construct the key and sidewall. Recommended removal of any water frotn the key excavation prior to placement of pond liner soils. 5. Dark gm)' silt)' clays were observed being used for sidewall construction in southeast comer of pond. We recommend a sufficient nmnber of classification and compaction tests be performed to insure density and permeability characteristics. T~hni¢ian: K. Mc. ~//~ cc: Mr. Bill .4a~dorson - Dowdy.
