OEM North Central Texas Council Of Governments TO: Regional Storm Water Participants DATE: November 30, 1998 FROM: Leslie M. Calderon Environmental Planner 1 (817) 608 -2341 SUBJECT: Storm Water Public Education and Participation Fair Storm Water Public Education is a required component of the NPDES storm water regulations as issued to large cities and proposed for small cities. While some entities have already developed public educational programs, others have not done so or need to revise their existing plans. In order to assist entities in meeting this management requirement, NCTCOG will host a Storm Water Public Education Fair on January 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Desoto Civic Center, 211 E. Pleasant Run, Desoto. This event is free of charge and is one of four forums to be held this year as part of the Expanded Regional Storm Water Program. The purpose of the fair will be to share information and ideas from participants that have experience in creating and implementing a successful program. The fair is targeted towards public education managers, watershed coordinators, city planners and others wishing to gain valuable insight and strategies on how to customize a program that meets their city's needs for addressing storm water public education. During the morning segment, participants will be able to highlight their programs by setting up a demonstration booth using their choice of materials. NCTCOG staff will prepare the Civic Center accordingly to facilitate the event. Enclosed you will find a form that will help us accommodate your needs if you plan on setting up a display booth. Please be advised that if you will be using an audio /visual format at your booth, you will need to supply your own AV equipment. We will arrange the room so that you will have access to a power source, but only if you let us know beforehand. The afternoon segment will include 10 —15 minute presentations by those wishing to participate. During this portion of the event you are invited to show a video, slides, power point presentation, give an informational talk about your program or address an issue concerning storm water issues pertaining to education. If at this time you do not have a public education program established, you are highly encouraged to attend this event, as it will be very beneficial in helping your entity comply with the NPDES process. If you plan to attend please complete the enclosed form or forward this information to your public education coordinator if one is available and return it by December 14. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Please invite all stakeholders interested in water quality issues. We will also be sending a brochure with detailed event information and directions to the Civic Center as the date approaches.
