Jim Witt, City Manager ~,
Steven G. Goram, Director of Public
Status of Change Orders/ Development of Andrew Brown, Jr. Community
Park, east of Denton Tap Road.
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information regarding the status of added
development to Andrew Brown Community Park, East. This would include the construction
of the fourth baseball/softball field at the park site, construction of a lighting system for the
four fields, and the completion of the parking lot area at the park.
In regard to the construction of the fourth ball field at the Community Park, staff will be
bringing forth an agenda item for the City Council's consideration on September 27, 1994, to
approve a change order from Rodman Excavation for the amount of $37,350. Rodman is
able to provide this change order because the design for the fourth field had been previously
designed by the park consultant. If approved, this work would take between 30-45 days to
complete. :
Staff has obtained a cost proposal for the design of a:lighting system for the four ball fields
at Andrew Brown, east. The design of the lighting system would be performed by Campos
Engineering, who has designed all of the athletic lighting on City athletic facilities. The
design of these facilities would take thirty days to complete, and is expected to cost
approximately $10,000, with the subsequent construction of the lighting system to cost
between $I 15,000-$125,000.
A design will be required for the colnpletion of the parking lot at Andrew Brown East, in
order to prepare specifications and construction documents to accept/brmal bids. The
construction of the parking lot, which will include grading, storm drainage, lighting,
irrigation, and landscape is projected to cost approximately $190,000.
Staff believes that design of the parking lot should be accomplished with in-house staff. In
conversations with Engineering, Ken felt that this project could be completed within a 5-7
week time frame, given the current work load.
Parks and Recreation Division staff would assist Engineering with surveying of this site, and
will design the irrigation system and landscaping. Unless you have a concern, staff will
proceed as outlined.
Staff will also bring an agenda item forward for Council's consideration during their
September 27, 1994, meeting to direct Campos Engineering to provide engineering for
construction plans and contract documents for the lighting system at the Community Park.
Should you have any questions regarding this information, please let me know.
