Re: Proposed Modifications to North Lake Dam
Dear Mr. Fard:
Freese and Nichols, Inc. was retained by the City of Coppell to provide design alternatives for the
lowering of the conservation pool of North Lake, which is currently owned by Luminant Generation
Company and is located between the cities of Coppell and Irving. The City of Coppell is currently in the
process of acquiring the land, including North Lake Dam, from Luminant. The current conservation pool
elevation is 510 ft-msl.The City desires to lower this elevation by approximately 25 feet to 485 ft-msl.
In May 2012, FNI began final design of a riser and conduit spillway to replace the existing overflow weir
spillway. Construction Plans and Specifications have been prepared for these proposed modifications,
and these documents have been reviewed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ),
the state agency responsible for dam safety in Texas. Final approval from TCEQ is expected pending
review of FNI responses to recent TCEQ comments.
The following documents are attached with this letter and submitted to the City of Dallas for review:
Design Report for North Lake Dam Improvements, Construction Plans for North Lake Dam
Improvements, Construction Specifications and Contract Documents for Modifications to North Lake
Dam and Spillway.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have at (817) 735-7284, or via
email at jlr @freese.com.
