At a recent Utilities/Streets Division staff meeting, it was requested that I pursue the renaming
of the Service Center. The suggestion was to rename the Service Center to the Jackie White
Municipal Service Center. As I am sure you are well aware, Jackie White was a long time
employee with the City of Coppell. I personally did not get to work with Jackie and really had
very little contact with him for the several years that he and I were both employed by the City.
However, the employees at the Service Center that worked beside Jackie for a number of years
strongly support the renaming of the Service Center in his honor. Attached to this memo is a
copy of a petition signed by employees of the Streets and Utilities Division and Leisure Services
Department showing their support for this change. Because of the strong support by the
employees who worked with Jackie, I also support the changing of the name of the facility to
the Jackie White Municipal Service Center.
If you and Council do not offer any objections to this request, then my next step will be to
contact the family to insure that they are not opposed to the renaming of the Service Center.
If at that point we still have strong support from the employees, Council and the family, then
I will bring a resolution forward for official Council action to rename the Service Center.
I have informed the employees of the Service Center that if this is approved by Council that I
would expect two things to be performed: 1) The sign in front of the Service Center would be
changed to read "Jackie White Municipal Service Center" as opposed to the "Coppell Service
Center"; 2) A plaque, certificate or some type of recognition, be installed immediately inside
the front door to inform the public of who Jackie White was, when he was employed with the
City and what his function was and why he is honored by the naming of the facility after him.

As you are aware, a request was brought forward to one of our staff meetings to rename the
North Service Center.
Based on that conversation, a petition was passed around and you will find that document
attached.
Please advise if I can provide any assistance in this matter.
