RE: Fire Code Violations at the North'Service Center'
Sited by Fire Department Personnel Keith Newton
Today I received a list of fire code violations at the North
Service Center facility from Fire Fighter/Paramedic Keith Newton.
The Fire Department will be performing a re-inspection on
November 28, 1995.
Attached are the reported violations within the respective
storage/cage areas behind the Service Center facility which need
to be addressed by your department prior to November 28, 1995.
1. Barrels behind storage areas are not marked. Need
identifying labels and MSDS for each product. (Leisure
Services)
2. General Housekeeping is needed to ensure access lanes are
open to back of each tool shed/cage area in case of fire.
(Leisure Services, Utilities, Streets)
3. Each storage shed area must have mounted fire extinguisher
and marker. (Leisure Services, Streets)
4. Buckets stored underneath work bench in back of tool shed
need to be properly labeled and MSDS sheet available for
each content. Throw away what is not being used. (Streets)
5. Fuel cans may be stored in wire rack storage (not stacked on
top of each other). (Utilities, Leisure Services)
6. Fertilizer products cannot be stored underneath fuel cans.
Items need to be stored separately. (Leisure Services)
7. Chlorine products need to be stored in rack cabinets and
separate from fuel products. (Utilities)
8. 55 Gallon drum products must be properly identified and MSDS
sheets made available for each content. (Leisure Services)
* There were several other violations inside the North Service
Center building, at the Fuel Island, and the Garage that
will be addressed by the Fleet Services and Facilities
Management divisions respectively.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Keith Newton will be available on Wednesday, November 23 at
extension 3530 if more information is needed.
Your assistance in addressing these safety violations is greatly
appreciated.
