Keith / Caleb,
See comments below from our design engineer. Please respond as to whether or not you see any issues with converting
to a double 25'x8' CS.
Thanks,

Before we go a do a lot of preliminary work pricing out a 40’x8’, we need to find out if the city could live with a reduced
flow capacity since, at higher flows, changing to a single 40’x8’ would cause the headwater elevation to increase
substantially. According to the attached analysis, it appears that the culvert is inlet controlled at higher flows, making
irrelevant the better flow characteristics of the 40’x8’ in such a case.
A double 25’x8’ CrownSpan culvert would save maybe a foot of width, if that’s enough.

Dick,
Can you take a look at the attached CS opportunity and provide comment / pricing? I have discussed with Keith at the
City and he does not have the space for the 5-10'x8' boxes as currently drawn. I suggested that we look at a single 40'x8'
CS. Thoughts?

John,
Attached is a plan sheet from the project we discussed. As you can see, the designer is currently showing 5 pre-cast box
culverts. We are considering the use of a Crown-Span culvert in lieu of these boxes. Any insight you can provide along
those lines would be appreciated. Our desire is to be able to keep one lane of traffic open through here during the
construction.
Thanks for your help.

Keith,
Hydraulically, we can meet the same flow by using a single 40'x8' crown span but this doesn't get you the full span that
you need. We could get the span and flow with 2-25'x7' crown spans. Let me know which option you would like to pursue
and I can work on budget pricing.
Thanks,
