Dear Mr. Sherpinskas:
In accordance with your request, a representative of GEE Consultants, Inc. obtained
samples of the exposed material at pavement subgrade level at the above referenced
project on August 10, 1994.
The samples were transported to the laboratory and classification tests were performed.
The test results are as follows:
Sample A
Sample Location: 20 feet west of Heartz and 55 feet south
of the north end
Sample Description: Brown Silty Clay
Liquid Limit: 35
Plastic Limit: 12
Plasticity Index: 23
Percent Passing No. 200 Sieve: 71

Sample Location: 120 feet east and 75 feet south of
northwest corner
Sample Description: Dark brown silty clay
Liquid Limit: 28
Plastic Limit: 11
Plasticity Index: 17
Percent Passing No. 200 Sieve: 69
Sample C
Sample Location: 20 feet east and 30 feet south of
northwest corner
Sample Description: Dark brown clay
Liquid Limit: 55
Plastic Limit: 19
Plasticity Index: 36
Percent Passing No. 200 Sieve: 90
A lime series test was then performed on material obtained from sample C. The results
of the lime series test are as follows:

Based on the above listed test results, we recommend that the subgrade of the proposed
pavement be stabilized with the addition of six percent hydrated lime (approximately 27
pounds of lime per square yard, for a six inch thick stabilized layer). The lime
stabilization should be performed in accordance with accepted plans and specifications.
