Subject:Bethel Road Reconstruction Phase III - Culvert Construction
Keith,
We’ve looked at several options for the culvert construction. Based on our analysis, the box culverts is the most feasible
option. Below is a breakdown of the options would considered:
1.Box Culverts – Most time and cost efficient option. The entire length could be constructed in 3-4 days and
backfilled with flowable fill and temporary asphalt to create a drivable surface.
2.Conspan – Option is not feasible due to skew of culverts with roadway.
3.Pre-fab bridge – Option requires the closure of Coppell Road for a minimum of a 1-2 weeks.
4.Crownspan – Option requires the pouring of three footings and two pre-cast 25’x8’ sections. This is only a
minimal width savings and will require a longer construction process and be more costly than box culverts.
I talked with John Dutschmann about the crownspan options today. Based on our discussion, he doesn’t see any clear
advantage to the crownspan vs. the box culverts. He’s going to check with his installation guys and see if they have any
additional feedback.
I’ll let you know if I hear anything further from Mr. Dutschmann. Give a call if you have any questions.
