No.: CPL 11185 CPL 11196 CPL 11248 Subject: Project Coordination Meeting Keith Marvin, City Kyle Dykes, TNP Tim May, TNP Chris Schmitt, TNP DATE OF REPORT: 8/6/2012 The following summation represents our interpretation of the items discussed at the referenced meeting. Any persons desiring to comment on or correct the minutes are requested to put their comment in writing to Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. within 10 days of the date of the report. Otherwise the minutes will stand as written. This meeting served as general project coordination for the Central Activity Lake, Boardwalk, and Alex Canal. The following is a summary of the meeting discussion items and associated action items. Central Activity Lake - MagnumStone and RediRock typical wall sections are shown on the Concept Plan. Either block system, including many other options can be designed appropriately for this project. TNP will evaluate the Pavestone large block system. City staff will determine a preferred wall type, or request additional information form TNP. Details of the selected wall system will be incorporated into the Preliminary Design Plans. - The proposed top of wall will be set slightly below the existing sidewalk, and at a uniform elevation around the entire lake. Mild transitions may be needed around the spillway, bridge, and lake outfall. - TNP will evaluate treatment options to dress up the lake outfall structure and coordinate a desired solution with the City. Basic culvert hydraulics will be evaluated; however, a full H6tH study of the watershed and lake system is not anticipated. If a full study is required, a contract amendment may be necessary. - The normal pool of the lake will be lowered approximately 6" to allow for more visible wall above the water line. - The fishing pier will remain in place and the connection to the bank will be reconstructed. The deck and railing will be updated as needed, and the pontoons /float system will be evaluated for Page 1 1100 Macon Street Fort Worth, Texas 76102 Phone - 817.336.5773 Fax - 817.336.2813 www.tnp-ontine.com deficiencies. The construction bid package will have provisions to do this work without a change order. - The two concrete headwalls at the southeast corner of the lake will be removed, and the culvert's extended to pass through the proposed wall. The extended pipe (concrete or HDPE) will discharge below the normal pool of the lake. HDPE pipe is optional for the extended pipes. - A two tiered wall is necessary (both banks) just downstream of the canal spillway. The City prefers a concrete treatment between the wall tiers to reduce maintenance issues. Alex Canal - TNP will prepare an amendment to the Alex Canal design contract to expand the scope north of Parkway Blvd. to the spillway. The scope will include designing wall for both banks. - Keith and John will evaluate the need for wall on both banks. - The MagnumStone wall system will work for Alex Canal, but will require tie - backs. - Additional geotech information is needed to design the tie - backs, and evaluate the possibility of a slow drawdown of the canal for construction. - A two - tiered wall option was mentioned, but is not feasible due to excessive excavation and tight easement constraints. Boardwalk - Upon Brad's confirmation, Tim will present options 1, 3, 5, and 6 (repair in- place) to the Park Board on Monday night, and then to Council on Thursday night. Costs will be needed, but not too many technical details. - The only action item for Monday night is to gain approval to proceed with removal of the existing boardwalk. This would also require a decision on Option 6 - Repair in- place. - Option 1 - the boardwalk would be raised and moved up the bank, but fixed to the foundation. - Option 3 - Abandons the boardwalk, reroutes the trail, and replaces the equalizer pipes with a pedestrian bridge. - Option 5 - Truncates the boardwalk with an overlook platform, and adds new trail on the north side of the lake. Action items - TNP will evaluate the Pavestone large block system and provide feedback. - TNP will verify any requirements for railing, and provide additional direction. - City will select a wall system for preliminary design. TNP will provide additional data upon request. - TNP will prepare a contact amendment for Alex Canal to extend the project north of Parkway. Page 2
