I arrrived on -site at 9:50am at the request of Fred Wolfes from Pavecon Construction to visually inspect subgrade and sample
CTB. Upon arrival I observed two trenches at Station 43 +80 and Station 42 +00 in the West bound lane of Sandy Lake Road.
Both trenches had geotextile in them, and the trench at Station 42 +00 currently had CTB being placed in it. I was unable to
inspect the subgrade of this trench. At Station 43 +80 1 requested the contractor to remove the geotextile from the trench so I
could inspect the subgrade. The subgrade at this location appeared to not be compacted, however the depth of the trench ( -4
ft.) was adequate to remove all unstable material. I observed loose material in several locations throughout the trench, and
pocket penetremeter readings throughout the trench were as follows: 0, 0, 1.5, 1.0, 0. Photographs of the subgrade were taken
and are attached for review. Ishamail with Pavecon was immediately notified that the subgrade did not appear to be compacted.
Keith Marvin with the City of Coppell was called to be notified of the project concerns; a message of these concerns were left
on his voicemail. One sample of CTB was obtained from a small stockpile near Station 42 +00 for compressive strength testing,
left the job site at 11:20am.
