Subject: Performing~rts Center~ Risers for Theatre
The Center for the Arts renovation project has a new scheduled completion date of
February 5, 1999 based on some construction delays. The Arts Group did coordinate
volunteers and donations to perform interior painting activities, but were unsuccessful in
obtaining resources to purchase the riser materials for the theatre area.
As you may recall, staff did not recommend awarding bid alternates 1 or 2 during
Council's consideration at their July 28, 1998 meeting (see attached) requiring the Arts
Group to furnish the risers and interior painting activities. The Arts Group would now
like to see if the City would consider a change order with Keck & Company to perform
this work at their original bid price of $4,920.00. Another option is to request a change
order from Keck & Company to purchase the lumber materials only and let the Arts
Group construct the risers using volunteer labor.
This request was made verbally via a telephone conversation on January 12, 1999 with
Robert Batson, at which time I indicated that I was unable to respond to their request but
would forward it to City Management. Pete Wilson is the contact person and can be
