CF-TownC CHC-CS 901001 COPP~.T. PUBLIC WORKS DATE= October 1, 1990 TO= Steven G. Goram, Director of Public Works FROM= Rick Wieland, Manager of Parks and Recreation~ City Hall Maintenance Tickler 10/2/90 As mentioned in the memo to Mr. Ratliff on September 18, 1990, staff is continuing its endeavor to insure the appearance and maintenance of City Hall. Since that time, dead plant material has been removed from the front of the building with new shrubs being planted in their place. Flowers should be in place in the planter boxes within the next 2-3 weeks. This will allow for the fall weather pattern to set in. Watering is taking place at least one time per week. Because this is an on-going operational matter, I would request that a tickler not be placed for this issue. Should an update regarding the maintenance and care of City Hall take place, I will certainly provide one. RSW/mp CITYHALL.RSW DATE: September 18, 1990 TO: Alan D. Ratliff, City Manager ~ / FROM: Steven G. Goram, Director of Public Wor RE: City Hall Maintenance This memorandum is in response to your request to examine what responsibilities the Public Works Department currently has in regard to the maintenance of the City Hall. At the present time, the Parks Division is responsible for outdoor maintenance that is performed. This maintenance includes the removal of trash, the mowing and watering of grass on the property, the removal of weeds and watering of plant materials and trees. The Parks Division also edges, trims and fertilizes grass, plant, and tree materials found at City Hall. The application of grassy weed killers such as MSMA is also applied, to appropriate areas around City Hall. The Parks Division performs these before mentioned tasks on a regular basis. Items such as litter removal and the inspection for debris at City Hall occurs each day. The mowing, watering and trimming of the City Hall area is performed on.the average of once a week. This will vary according to weather conditions and need. Maintenance tasks such as fertilization, removal of weeds, MSMA application, pruning of plant or trees and removal and subsequent planting of these materials will take place on a periodic basis as needed. The ultimate solution in providing the most efficient care and maintenance to the area around City Hall would be the installation of an irrigation system. This would provide for a regulated measure 9f water which would help insure the establishment and growth of plant materials. Until such time as this issue can be addressed, the Parks Division will continue to maximize its efforts to insure the appearance and maintenance of City Hall.
