We would like to apply the $7,000 credit to the cost of the additional work necessary around the bridge abutments. The scope of work is to remove and replace the approach slabs on either side of the bridge, continue the block around in front of the exposed piers and abutments, and backfill the void space behind the block and around the abutment with the same structural backfill used in the wall construction. If we can complete this scope within the available credit, then we would consider this a wash, and no change order will be necessary. Keith Marvin, P.E. In doing so, we would create a credit back to the city in between$ 5-7000.00 dollars for this project. Our reasoning is that utilizing the more expensive three piece system block below grade is neither productive nor cost effective. Please respond at your earliest convenience.
