Mr. Lommen,
We are making progress on this project. It has been painfully slow at times, but we are getting closer. We have all the
land acquired that we needed for the expansion, however Oncor (the power company) apparently needed to acquire
easements in addition to the land we needed for the road. Unfortunately they did not begin this process until after we
had completed ours.
At this time Oncor has completed all their planning work, and acquired the necessary easements. The city issued the
permit for them to begin relocating their poles last Friday. I expect to see them begin work in the next 2 weeks. Once
all the poles have been relocated, we will be able to begin our work. I expect to bid this project over the summer, with
construction beginning thereafter.
Thanks for your continued interest in this project. Feel free to call me with any additional questions.

Mr. Lommen,
The city is currently purchasing right of way for the widening of Sandy Lake Road from Denton Tap to South Coppell
Road. We have reached an agreement with 5 of the 10 impacted property owners, and are continuing the negotiations
with the remaining owners. We hope to complete this process by this fall. Once all property has been acquired the
franchise utility companies (Oncor, Verizon, Atmos, Time Warner, etc.) will be relocating their utilities in advance of the
road widening. We anticipate this phase to take approximately 12 months. This will allow for construction to begin in
late 2011, or early 2012.
The portion of Sandy Lake between North Coppell and South Coppell has been partially funded with federal tax
dollars. As a result, the Texas Department of Transportation is handling much of the details of this portion. They are
currently waiting on environmental clearance. Once the environmental clearance has been approved they will continue
with the 30% design. The earliest this portion of the road will go to construction is April 2012.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have related to this project.

The term "death trap" is a bit harsh.
We are currently purchasing right of way for the widening. Since the bond election we have completed most of Sandy
Lake. In addition, we have widened North Denton Tap, three sections of Coppell Road, Belt Line Road, added a lane to
MacArthur Blvd, and various other projects.
I will have Keith Marvin, Project Engineer, contact you next week with the timetable for the start of the project.

Ken:
Once again on Thursday during the brief rain storm I almost ran over a teenager on a bike on West Sandy Lake Road. I
think with the intersection being closed he thought the road was wide open to ride out into the roadway. Do to the poor
stopping on the slick blacktop I came within feet of running him over in my SUV; on pavement I would not have had an
issue.
I recall voting for Sandy Lake road back in the 90s when will this death trap get fixed ? I cannot believe it has taken
forever to complete the main East West road in Coppell .
PS: Thanks for all the work on the new Denton Tap Sandy Lake road intersection, That will be a great improvement for
safety.
