Brick Paver Replacement
Denton Tap/Belt Line Intersection To Temporarily Close
The City's Engineering Department is preparing for reconstruction of the intersection of
Belt Line and Denton Tap Roads. This project will include the replacement of the intersection’s
brick pavers with stamped concrete pavement. Anticipated start date is on or around June 6.
In order to remove and replace the pavers at the intersection of Belt Line
Road/Denton Tap Road/Southwestern Blvd., the contractor will need to temporarily close various
lanes of traffic. One lane of traffic will be allowed north and south on Denton Tap Road/Belt Line
Road at all times. Southwestern Blvd. will be closed from the intersection with Denton Tap/Belt
Line to a point just east of the intersection with Bullock. E. Belt Line Road will be closed from
the intersection of Denton Tap/Belt Line to the east, approximately 100 feet, where the median
will be cut to allow traffic to make a u-turn.
Vehicles traveling southbound on Denton Tap seeking access to E. Belt Line will be
detoured east, through a temporary traffic signal, on Sanders Loop. Vehicles traveling
southbound on Denton Tap seeking access to Southwestern Blvd. will be able to turn west onto
the old, one-way, section of Southwestern, just south of Dairy Queen.
Vehicles traveling northbound on Denton Tap seeking access to E. Belt Line will be
detoured at Sanders Loop and up to E. Belt Line Rd. Vehicles traveling northbound on Denton
Tap, seeking access to Southwestern Blvd. will be detoured at Airline Dr.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during construction.
Depending upon the weather, the Engineering Department anticipates that this
intersection can be reconstructed within 30 calendar days. The contract will include an
incentive/disincentive specifically related to the length of time for the road closure. Once the
closure begins the contractor will have 30 calendar days to re-establish all lanes of traffic through
the intersection. Drivers will soon see message boards and signage along Denton Tap and Belt
Line Roads informing the traveling public about the scheduled closure.
Please note that Texas Transportation Code states the following:
Sec. 545.423. CROSSING PROPERTY. (a) An operator may not cross a sidewalk or drive
through a driveway, parking lot, or business or residential entrance without stopping the vehicle.
(b) An operator may not cross or drive in or on a sidewalk, driveway, parking lot, or business or
residential entrance at an intersection to turn right or left from one highway to another highway.
For the safety of the people and vehicles in the businesses at this intersection, motorists
should not cut through parking lots to gain access to Denton Tap Rd. The Coppell Police
Department will monitor this area and enforce the law.
