Improvements Project - Contractor Questions
Good Morning George,
We received the following questions about the waterline portion
of the project that I wanted to see what the City’s preference would be
on these items.
1. 16” Gate Valve: We call out that these shall be per
standard detail 4070. I wasn’t not able to locate if there was a
preference on either resilient seat gate valves or double disc/seat gate
valves. I do believe that there is a longer wait time and a higher cost
for the double disc/seat gate valves. Also, just to confirm, you will
require a 4” bypass on these gate valves, correct?
2. On the above mentioned standard detail 4070, on the 30”
manhole opening there is a reference for the std. cast iron manhole
frame, cover and rainpain as specified by City and directs you to the
std. detail 5020. I’ve attached the 5020 detail and I wasn’t able to
locate any requirements on the cast iron manhole frame and cover. Below
is what we have in our FNI standard specifications.
A. Manhole Rings and Covers: Manhole rings and covers
shall be made of gray iron castings in accordance with ASTM A48 and
shall conform to Class No. 30. Lids shall have pick slots. Minimum
manhole ring and cover inside diameter shall be 30 inches. Ring depth
shall be minimum 6 inches. Lid and ring shall be designed for traffic
loading. Water tight lids shall be bolted using stainless steel bolts
to ring and neoprene gaskets.
When you get a chance, let me know what your preferences are on
these items.
Thank you,
Rick Rudin, P.E.
