I have spoken with Brad Meyer with Carter & Burgess, the engineer
for Devonshire, and with Steve Gee, the developer of Devonshire,
concerning the installation of a guardrail along the east side of
Coppell Road adjacent to Devonshire. Mr. Gee's position was not
so much the cost involved or potential cost sharing with the City
for the installation, but his main concern was the aesthetics of
the guardrail adjacent to his screening wall.
Both Mr. Meyer and Mr. Gee proposed the alternative of the
installation of delineators along that stretch of Coppell Road.
My concern is to accurately define the problem as presented by Mr.
Pettijohn. If the problem is the real potential of vehicles
driving off the road into the bar ditch, then it is quite possible
that guardrails will be needed and warranted. However, as pointed
out by Mr. Gee, there are several other locations along Coppell
Road that do have a sharp drop off with cross-tie retaining walls.
However, if the problem is basically the need to alert the
motorists of a potentially dangerous situation, then the
installation of a series of delineators could effectively serve
· that purpose.
I would be happy to discuss with you what your impression of the
real danger and concern, as presented by Mr. Pettijohn was. I also
told Mr. Gee that you may wish to call him directly. If you do,
he can be reached at 621-0059.
