RE: Sandy Lake Road Improvements
Gabion Wall Repair
Dear Keith,
As you are aware, TNP has a long standing/value relationship with the City of Coppell as such we have
worked on numerous successful projects throughout the tenure of our relationship. Standing behind our
work is a valued component of our mission statement of “doing the right things right.”
Per our recent discussions I offer the following summary of TNP’s efforts to resolve the issues relating to
the gabion walls at the newly constructed Sandy Lake Road Bridge over Cottonwood Branch this letter
provides documentation of TNP’s ownership of the issue and commitment to pay for the corrective actions.
On October 1, 2014, TNP received news of a gabion wall failure near the southeast corner of the bridge.
TNP quickly assembled a team of in-house experts including corporate principals, structural engineers,
and other experienced staff members to meet at the project site in order to assess both the section of
wall that had failed as well as the remaining gabion wall sections.
As a result of this efforts we identified the apparent cause of the wall failure as well as identified
additional segments of the gabion walls that should be modified to improve their performance and reduce
the potential any future failures or maintenance issues. It should be noted that neither the failed wall
section, nor any of the other wall segments identified for modification caused or posed any structural
threats to the bridge.
Subsequent to our review/analysis, we prepared revised gabion layout plans and provided them to the
general contractor (TISEO) for pricing on November 6, 2014. On November 11th we received a proposal
from TISEO in the amount of $46,389.50 for the proposed gabion repairs and modifications. Upon,
review, we’ve determined that the proposal appears to be fair and reasonable. TNP stands ready to
either directly pay TISEO for the gabion repairs/modifications or reimburse the City for the cost of the
repairs.
As I mentioned above our commitment to you and the City has been to own and address this issue from
the beginning by seeing it through from the initial analysis to completion of the construction as well as
funding the repairs.
We sincerely regret and apologize for any inconvenience that this matter has caused you or the City.
We are honored to serve the citizens of Coppell including you and your staff and value our relationship
including the trust that you place in us to support the engineering/design needs of the City.
Sincerely,
tnp
