RE: West Sandy Lake Blvd. Ph. 2A Ret. Wall (2)The Joint between the wall and base slab is to have a 4" wide x 1.5" deep keyway or the surface roughened to a minimum amplitude of 1/4" and thoroughly cleaned. The spacing of contraction/construction joints should be 32' minimum with every third joint being an expansion joint. Delvin Black, Ph.D., P.E. Wall Chris, See below request from the contractor. We have eliminated the form liner in favor of a surface applied thin brick veneer. This change has been made on the Freeport Parkway job as well. The detail on sheet 53 (Phase 2A) shows a 2" inset for the form liner. The question is can they make the whole wall 1'-0" thick with no inset. My opinion is we want the veneer to run the whole height of the wall, and we will apply a capstone to create the overlap at the top. This is the decision we made on the Freeport wall, and we want to be consistent with that wall. Please provided guidance on Questions 2 and 3. Thank you. Wall Robert, We need a little clarification for the cast in place concrete retaining wall. 1. Since we are placing veneer on the wall is the thickness 1'. 2. To construct the wall there will need to be a construction joint between wall and sidewalk base do we need to place a keyway at this location and what should it look like. 3. What is the expansion joint spacing. Chris Quentin Axis Contracting, Inc. P.O. Box 360715 Dallas, Texas 75336 (972) 557-3672 office (972) 557-2400 fax(817) 992-6658 cell
