Safety Issue - Winding Hollow Lane (Small Children)Good Evening Keith,
I really appreciate you coming out to our neighborhood, listening to
our concerns, and then addressing them very effectively. Considering
how you have quickly acted to resolve those issues, I need to urgently
request your help with implementing additional speed bumps and Slow
Children at Play signs within the length of our street to slow down the
speed of moving vehicles.
As you may be aware, there are many small children located very close
to the Sandy Lake Road and Winding Hollow Lane end of the street. The
reason this has become very important to me at this moment is because my
8 year old son Tommy was almost struck last night by a car traveling at
a high rate of speed. Even though we had taught him to not cross the
street if cars were present, he ran across the street. We have followed
up with him after this incident to reinforce what he should and should
not do. However, the driver of the car did not even apply his/her
brakes as I yelled for my son to stop his crossing of the street. The
car just missed hitting his legs as he made it across...I'm actually
feeling quite overcome with emotion every time I think about what could
have happened and the subsequent possible events (serious injury/death,
funeral, etc.). It makes me sad to think of my life without him around;
he means absolutely everything to me.
Please consider my request as initial thoughts of how to help bring
awareness to drivers that many children are playing in the area and that
slower/safer driving practices are required. So if you can review and
come up with better solutions, please do so. And if an unfortunate
accident does happen in the future, hopefully by limiting vehicle speed,
the victim will not be subjected to a deadly force....in turn recovering
and living a normal life with family and friends who need them.
Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns, or want to
discuss in further detail.
Thanks in advance...
Sincerely,
Tom Thakady
