ST0301C- CS150330Sorry to keep bothering you, but is there any attempt being made to save any of the really large beautiful trees along S Coppell road, or will all of them be cleared leaving it bare and opening up our not so great view of the warehouses to the West? From: George Marshall [mailto:GMarshall@coppelltx.gov] Sent: Monday, March 30, 2015 1:22 PM To: Smith, Kay Cc: Kenneth Griffin; Alberto Samaniego; Michael Garza Subject: RE: Request for better lighting in areas near Old Town Coppell***follow up**** We start construction this week. They will begin with tree removal & then move into utility work. In about 2 weeks we anticipate Coppell Road to be one way northbound only. While the proposed lighting ends at the new bridge just south of Robertson Pools, we have opportunity to install street lights mounted on the power poles along this segment of road. We will evaluate this option as the project continues. Thank You, George George Marshall, P.E. So I just wanted to follow up with you to see if you had further discussions with Mr. Griffin regarding the lighting around McNear and S Coppell road that I had inquired about awhile back? Also to see if you had a more specific timeline you could provide regarding the construction along our section of road? Also, do you have any updates I could pass along to my neighbors regarding the timing of the project actually getting started? The city website still says the end of January for beginning of construction but it hasn’t yet. Please give me a call if you have questions. It is a lot of information to digest into an email. Thank You, George George Marshall, P.E. The break was probably left for runoff water, but is difficult to see. While I have noticed there do seem to be some kind of reflectors around the curb they do not show up very well when turning left so I would like to ask if possible to add either better lighting there or better reflectors on the curb…is there such a thing as reflective paint that could go on the curb? [] We are in the process of redesigning the street lighting along the Denton Tap corridor. We will be replacing the street light poles and fixtures with LED. The LED should provide a more crisp light than the yellow hue we see today. This should help with visibility. I will also take note of this area and be sure to review the proposed spacing. 2) When turning left (South) onto Old Coppell road from Sandy Lake it is difficult to judge the lane boundaries when it is dark. It is especially difficult when there is a large/tall vehicle in the middle lane (which is the left turn lane- northbound S Coppell to go West on Sandy Lake). Are there any plans for lighting along Sandy Lake that just hasn’t been completed yet that would address this area?[] We have ordered the new poles and fixtures mentioned in the previous comment for this stretch of roadway as well. We are probably about 90-120 days out before they are up and running. 3) #ST 03-01C – BETHEL & COPPELL ROAD (Bethel Road from Penfolds Lane to S. Coppell Road/Mitchell Street & Coppell Road from Bethel Road to Cooper Lane) - this project is a long-time in coming and we are quite happy it is finally set to begin anytime now but would like to inquire about any planned lighting along S Coppell Road. I had previously inquired about an additional street light on the North side of McNear (or possibly across the way alongside S Coppell) like the one on the Southeast corner as it can be difficult to see when driving south on S Coppell and turning left onto McNear (the desire would be to light the street from both directions).[] Currently we have street lights designed up to the new bridge along Coppell Road from Bethel Road. I will discuss further, internally and see what we may be able to do further north. Since there are already overhead electrical we would normally pay Oncor to install cobra heads on their existing poles. Please note that I have not had a chance to talk with Ken yet and I apologize for any misunderstanding. Ken and I will discuss further. Below is an excerpt of a conversation I had with Ken Griffin back in 2013 (see attached email): There are not currently plans to install street lights along Coppell Road, but it is something that can be added to the plans. We work with Oncor during the design to determine where street lights may be needed. We then provide the underground conduits during construction for the electricity. After construction, Oncor places the street lights. We will be sure to have a conversation with Oncor about the intersection of McNear and Coppell Road. Can you please tell me if this was indeed discussed and added into the plans? I would like to thank you in advance for your time and consideration of these issues and would be most appreciative of a response that I can pass along to other residents as to the possibility of beginning to address these problem areas or any plans already in the works to do so, in which case we just need to be patient a bit longer.
