Utility Permit for the relocation of aircraft noise monitor NE6Good morning Kevin.
In support of DFW’s effort to acquire a ROW utility permit I have
attached a graphic of what a typical DFW aircraft noise monitor looks
like on a public street. The second graphic shows the existing site and
the proposed new location and vicinity. I met with Gary Sieb and Scott
Latta at the site some weeks ago to discuss the relocation, and we
selected the new site shown on the graphic. It will be about 5 feet
from the Hammond St. curb and about 15 feet from the gabion lining for
the creek. The last graphic attached is an engineering drawing of the
monitor providing any specs you may need.
The function of NE6 has been to monitor aircraft noise 24/7. It has
performed this function since its installation in March of 1996,
interrupted once for about a year as a cost savings measure following
the events of 9/11 2001. The data collected at this site and the others
in DFW’s 110 square mile array is used to confirm that the noise
contours of the airport’s activities are not expanding into the
surrounding communities.
We have not had any trouble with the existing site nor Mr. Chadick, the
representative of the property owners. However, the property owners are
now interested in developing the property upon which monitor NE6 sits
and have requested it be removed. Keeping it in the current vicinity is
important to the Airport and the City of Coppell for the purposes of air
traffic surveillance and aircraft noise data continuity.
I appreciate your assistance in this matter and if there is any other
information you need, please feel free to contact me.
Best Regards,
Harvey Holden
