I have been commuting across Coppell for over 2 years now, so I am quite familiar with both the morning and evening "rush hours" across our town. My original email talked about a potential environmental impact created when a large number of vehicles, traveling east or west on Beltline, has to come to a practically instantaneous stop as a single car from Northlake Woodlands approaches the intersection at Mockingbird. This traffic has accelerated to 50 mph and then must suddenly stop, as the timer at that intersection is no longer than 3-4 seconds of waiting time that is required of the southbound Mockingbird driver. It always seems rather absurd to me that the traffic on Beltline, has to wait probably a half minute for this nearly constant single-car approach. These single cars are never accumulated, they just get instant green lights, one after the other. Then, all the stopped traffic accelerates quite hard again, no doubt providing extra emissions for the Mockingbird neighbors to enjoy! This morning, my group of vehicles rapidly braking at Mockingbird for the single car to turn, was at least 15 vehicles, most of which waited the entire signal cycle at Beltline/MacArthur. So obviously, there is no synchronization in place there during morning rush. Which brings me to my second area of concern: the Beltline closure for paver stone replacement. I have lived in the Riverchase area for years and am quite familiar with the condition of that intersection. How long have the current paver stones been in use? And have they exceeded their service life? I cannot detect much, if any, failure in the current paver stones that comprise a majority of the intersection. Is this replacement project only to add the star design? If so, I would like to object to the taxpayer expense and traffic delays, not the mention the unwanted (and unnecessary at this time?) extra traffic via Fairway and Riverchase Drive. Riverchase Drive is already an unsafe speedway of drivers cutting through, and I fear the detour will make the problem much worse. Thanks for reading this and allowing me to contribute my thoughts.
