Hammond- LR150508 RUNE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL TESTING May 8, 2015 Mr. Jason Rose Hass Rose at Lost Creek, LLC 141 Dickens Drive Coppell, Texas 75019 RE: Moisture Evaluation No. 1 Hammond Street Townhomes Coppell, Texas Rone Project No. 15-20110 Dear Mr. Rose, Rone Engineering Services, Ltd. (Rone) recently visited the referenced site to drill verification borings following several passes of water injection. The first set of borings were drilled on April 23, 2015 and the second set of borings were drilled on April 30, 2015. This letter summarizes our test results and recommendations. Moisture conditions at the site were evaluated with ten verification borings at this time. The Borings are identified as: Borings B-1 through B-7, B-3R, B-10 and B-11 The first set of borings (B-1 through B-7) were drilled in every other lots covering Lots 1 through 13. Continuous Shelby tube samples were obtained to a depth of 12 feet below the existing ground surface. The samples were wrapped in the field to preserve their moisture content and returned to our laboratory for testing. Laboratory testing included free swell tests to aid in assessing swell characteristics of the injected soils, along with moisture content determinations and hand penetrometer strength tests. We understand it is desired to limit the swell potential to 3-inches or less. Swell test results ranged from 0.4 percent to 4.9 percent in the samples tested for the first set of borings (B-1 through B-7). Hand penetrometer readings generally ranged from 1.00 tsf to 4.50+ tsf indicating soft to hard clay. Based on the swell test results and the available geotechnical information, it is our opinion that the swell potential of the injected subgrade at boring locations B-1, B-2 and B-4 through B-7 will be 3-inches or less. However, the injected subgrade at boring location B-3 did not meet the swell potential of 3- inches or less. Therefore, swell potential was re-evaluated for Lots 4 through 6 (corresponding to verification Boring B-3) following additional passes of water injection.
