From its surge-resistant power supply to its rugged construction, the LC2 process controller is designed for maximum reliability. The LC2 was engineered to be one of the most user-friendly process controllers in the induslry. Three large digital display areas provide information that is easy to read and understand. The bright, crisp display offers excellent readability. Keystone can provide the LC2 along with the appropriate Keystone valves and Keystone actuators as a pre-assembled, pre-tested system. One source responsibility eliminates many of the problems normally encoun- tered in controller applications. ! I CONTROL ALGORITHM PID, P with manual reset, PI, PD with manual reset, and On-Off are selectable from the front panel. Heat/cool outputs each use the same algorithm, except On-Off may be used with PID. The PID algorithm used is non-interacting. INPUT IMPEDANCE Current Input: 250 Ohm Thermocouples: 10 M Ohm Voltage Input: 1 M Ohm RTDs: 10 M Ohm TUNING PARAMETERS Proportional Band: Integral: Derivative: Manual Reset/Load Line: Cycle Time: On-Off Deadband: 0. 1 to 999% of input range 1 to 3600 seconds/repeat 0 to 600 seconds 0-100% output 0.3 to 120 seconds up to 15% of input range (in eng. units) Up to eight sets on PID values may be stored in memory and selected automatically, based on set point value, process variable value, or the corresponding local setpoint (SP1-SPS). SELF TUNING OF PID VALUES On-demand "pretune": This is an open loop algorithm that may used on its own to calculate PID variables, or it can be used to provide preliminary PID values, as well as process identification to be used by the adaptive tune. Adaptive tune: Our exclusive, heuristic adaptive tuning algorithm that automatically adjusts the PID values whenever a process upset occurs. Preliminary information may be input manually or automatically calculated by our pretune algorithm. PROCESS VARIABLE INPUTS Universal input type. Any input may be selected in the field. Selection of input type (thermocouple, RTD, voltage or current) via jumper, Selection of particular sensor or range is via front panel. A. Transmitter Signals Milllamps DC Voltage DC Millivolts DC B. INPUT SIGNAL FAILURE- PROTECTION When input is lost, output is commanded to a predetermined output (-5 to 105%). Thermocouple burnout is selectable for upscale or downscale. INPUT FILTER Single pole lowpass digital filter with selectable time constant from 0 to 20 seconds. OUTPUT MODULES Analog module: Either 0-20 mA or 4-20 mA (front panel selectable) into load up to 1000 Ohm. Mechanical relay module: SPDT electromechanical relay. Resistive load rated at 5 amps at 120/240 VAC. Normally open or normally closed selection is made by jumper. Solid state relay (triac) module: Resistive load rated at I amp at 120/240 VAC. Normally open or normally closed selection is made by jumper. LiNEARIZATION Thermocouple and RTD inputs are automatically linearized. Transmitter inputs may be linearized using a square root function or a custom user- definable 15-point straight line linearization function. CONTROL OUTPUTS Up to two output modules may be designated for control. Any combination of output modules, with the exception ot the loop power supply modules, may be used. Heat/cool conlrol is available if output modules are installed in the first and second output sockets. Position proportioning control with feedback is available by installing mechanical or solid state relay modules in the first two output sockets, and the slidewire feedback option is installed. The feedback option may be added in the field. Slidewire feedback range is 0 to 1050 Ohm. "Velocity" position proportioning control is available by installing mechanical or solid state relay modules in the the first two output sockets. A special algorithm controls an electric actuator without the slidewire feed- back signal. Staged (split range) outputs are available if analog modules are installed in the first and second output sockets. This algorithm will allow the output range to be split between the two outputs. RETRANSMISSION OUTPUT A retransmission output is available is an analog output module is installed In any output socket not used for control. The precise, 16-bit retransmission output may be scaled for any range. The transmitted signal can be configured for process variable, the target setpoint value, or the ramping setpoint value. ALARMS One alarm is standard. The alarm may be configured for type (process vari- able, deviation from setpoint, band around setpoint, rate-of-change, and manual mode); latching sequence (including a standard limit controller sequence); deadband; and nine-character custom alarm message. SETPOINT SELECTION A remote setpoint input is available. Signal is 0-20/4-20 mADC or 0-5/1-5 VDC (jumper selectable). Signal may be rattoed and biased. Eight local set- points may be stored in memory. Setpoint selection is made via SET PT key or digital contact(s). SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS Serial communications is available using a KEYBUS interface. Specific setpoint or output if desired. Outputs 2-4 and digital inputs can act as "host-controlled" I/O independent of the controllers function. May be installed in the field. Figures 1 and 2 represent typical torque characteristics for quarter-turn valves. These types of valves normally use a limit switch to position the valve at lhe end ol its stroke. For some types of valves. the torque switch is used to torque seat Ihe valve in the closed position. The seating torque is a function of valve construction and ol the maximum differential pressure acting on the valve. The unseating torque necessary to open the valve may be higher than the torque to close the valve. thus requiring more effort. Additional torque may also be caused by jamming or sticking after long idle periods or from a buildup of dirt and corrosion. To overcome this resistance, a high instant unseating torque is required to start the valve disk or gate moving. This torque, typically called the rated torque of Ihe actuator, is the torque the actualor will produce betore the torque switch trips, when set at 100 percent. Even more torque is sometimes required. which can be accomplished by bypassing the actuator torque switch during the initial unseating stage of the valve stroke. This momentarily allows the actuator to produce torque greater From Control Room O ..-7-:---k t--- Z 0 c3 Field Torque and position control, end o! stroke ,;"", IAuxiliafi/s,w!tches I Motor with inherent thermal -- prolective device Figure 3. Base construction than its raled torque. bul less than the stall torque rating of the actuator. Stall torque is the point at which the torque of the valve exceeds the acluator's capacity Io move the valve. Raled torque for the majority of valves is required for only a short lime, as Figures 1 and 2 illustrate. After the valve unseats and the loads drop. Ihe aclualor moves Ihe valve using its constant, or running torque, In typical on/oil service this is approxi- mately 40 percent of rated torque. Base Construction Base construclion defines an electric actuator constructed such that the motor controls (open/slop/close push- buttons, indicating lights, reversing contactor, etc.) are remotely located: generally in a control room or motor control center. The actuator contains only the elecIric motor with its thermal protective device. position and torque switches. anti- condensation heater and reduction gearing, Base construction results in a low purchase cost Ior the actuator. but a higher installation cost (Figure 3). Control and signaling can be repeated locally, paralleling devices located in a · control room, by adding a local control station equipped with push buttons. pilot lights and selector switch. The US2000 is a modular, heavy-duty unit designed for long life and ease of maintenance and is available for both 3-phase and 1-phase applications. The addition of the US2000 does not affect the enclosure rating of the base actuator. Parts are readily available from local sources or from Keystone Controls. Integral Construction 'Integral' is a term used to describe an electric actuator with all electric controls supplied within the actuator enclosure. These can include a reversing contactor, its associated control components and any additional electrical accessories. Providing all the components necessary for control raises the cost of the actuator. Installation costs are reduced, however. Additional control and signaling devices may be added in a remote location. 77Q US2000 dimensions are slightly larger than the base version. Environmental Protection Actuator enclosure is approved by Factory Mutual for the following classifications: · NEMA 4 weatherproof · NEMA 6 submersible · Hazardous locations: Class I, Division 1, Groups C & D Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, & G Class III, Division 1 · Complies with the requirements of NEMA 4X, corrosion resistance. The actuator enclosure is approved by d~ CSA for the following classifications: · Type 4/4)(/6 · Hazardous locations: Class I, Division 1, Groups C & D Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, & G Class III, Division I Integral push button Pote~tiometer or assernOly: of~ft/sto;/ctose Retransmi,ss~ lekxlule, push buttons, pilot lamps, intermediate I)o6~jon locaVremote selector sw~tclq limit sw~ches Reversing contactor and associated controls " Torque and position controt, end of ~ signaling switches mechanical dial pssilion indicator Integral construction · ~' -,,: :~; ....._ -.; ,, :~,~:~, ,,, ~' Optional acce~ories include (le~ to right): Re~ansmission Module, S~d Con~ol, Se~o Amp, and Potentiomet~. Available Options · Potentiometer or 4-20 mA Retransmission Module These devices provide a continuous. remote electrical signal of the valve's position, Both are installed on the control group. The retransmission module requires a separate 24 VDC power supply. It can be powered via the loop or with an optional 24 VDC power supply module mounted in the US2000 enclosure. · Servo Amp A servo amp is used when the application requires the actuator to position the valve using an analog command signal, · Speed Control Module The speed control module is a solid-state device that can extend the stroke time of an electric actuator by three times the normal duration. Independent adjustments to control both opening and closing stroke times are provided. · Interposing Relays interposing relays provide remote actuator control us~g 12, 24, 48 VDC or other control voltages. Relays are available to allow the actuator to interface with control systems that supply various types of voltage com.mands. Phase correction automatically senses and corrects this condition. Phase detection senses a mis-phased con- dition and prevents the motor from starting until the condition is corrected. · Monitor Relay A relay can be provided to monitor the control power of the actuator, Upon loss of line power or a fuse on the transformer, contacts on the relay can either signal the condition or prevent the actuator from running. · Special Wire Insulation or Identification Alternative types of wire or insulation types are available if required by the application. When requested, special wiring identification can be supplied. · Three-wire ValvBusTM Controls ValvBusTM modules are easily incor- porated into the US2000 enclosure. allowing a group of actuators to be linked together in a common communications loop. valvBus'" is a trademark of Keystone International Holdings CorD. ..:,~, Feedback Potentiota.tar and Retransmission Module installed in the Figure 77Q actuator.
