It is controlled by a stainless steel, normally open, pressure reducing pilot designed to: 1 ) Open (allowing fluid out of the main valve cover chamber) when downstream (outlet) pressure is below its adjustable setpoint, and, 2) Close (allowing fluid to fill the main valve cover chamber) when downstream (outlet) pressure is above its adjustable setpoint. A decrease in downstream (outlet) pressure causes the Model 910 / 610 to modulate towards an open position, raising downstream pressure. An increase in downstream (outlet) pressure causes the Model 910 / 61 0 to modulate towards a closed position, lowering downstream pressure. INSTALLATION 1) Prior to installation, flush line to remove debris. 2) Install valve so flow arrow matches flow through the line. 3) Install isolation valves on the inlet and outlet of the AMES Automatic Control Valve. NOTE: If using butterfly valves, insure valve disc does not contact the AMES Control Valve. Damage or improper valve seating may occur. 4) Provide adequate clearance for valve servicing and maintenance. 5) Install pressure gauges to monitor valve inlet and outlet pressure. If connections are not provided, unused body connections may be used. Special Note: When used in low flow or'potentially static applications, AMES recommends a pressure relief valve not less than 1/2" be installed downstream for additional system protection. EO. BOX 1387 · 1485 TANFORAN AVE. · WOODLAND, CA 95776 · (916) 666-2493 ° FAX (916) 666-3914 M85-51 9/96 AMnS FLUID CONTROL SYSTEMS START-UP Proper Automatic Control Valve start-up requires bringing the valve into service in a controlled manner. All adjustments to control pilots and speed controls, if so equipped, should be made slowly, allowing the valve to respond and the system to stabilize. NOTE: Control Valves should be set-up in a dynamic (flowing) condition lor proper start-up. Provisions for llow must be made to insure proper settings. 1) Close upstream and downstream valves to isolate the Model 910 / 610 from line pressure. Release spring tension on control pilot by turning adjustment screw out (counterclockwise), decreasing setpoint. Open all Isolation Ball Valves, if so equipped. If valve is fitted with adjustable speed controls, turn needle(s) in (clockwise) until seated, and return out (counter clockwise) 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 turns. These are approximate settings, and should be fine tuned to suit system requirements after pressure adjustments have been made. 2) Slowly open upstream isolation valve to allow controlled filling of the Model 910 / 610. Vent entrappeal air by carefully loosening control tubing or pipe plug at the highest point possible. Water will be milky white in appearance, and will begin to clear as air is vented. Carefully loosen enough cover screws on control pilot(s) to vent entrapped air. Re-tighten when water vents cleady. 3) Slowly open downstream isolation valve. Gradually turn adjustment screw on the Reducing Pilot in (clockwise) to raise downstream pressure. NOTE: There must be a demand for water (flow) for proper Control Valve start-up. Allow valve and system to stabilize. Observe inlet and outlet pressure gauges. Continue to adjust Reducing Pilot as needed, pausing approxi- mately every 1-1/2 turns, allowing valve and system to stabilize. Turning Reducing Pilot adjustment screw in (clockwise) raises outlet pressure. Turning Reducing Pilot adjustment screw out (counterclockwise) lowers outlet pressure. When desired downstream pressure is reached, tighten locknut on Reducing Pilot. 4) Fine tune Speed Controls to suit system requirements. Adjust Closing Speed Control (if equipped) in (clockwise) for slower closure, and out (counterclockwise) for faster closure. Adjust Opening Speed Control (if equipped) in (clockwise) for slower opening, and out (counterclockwise) for faster opening. REPAIR PARTS Rubber Repair Kits contain all diaphragms and seals.
