Duke Freeport- CS160324THE NEW RESOURCE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY Redi-Mix Concrete, L.P. a US Concrete Company The Technical Service Department 331 North Main St. Euless, TX 76039 Office: (817) 835-4100 Fax: (817) 835-4074 RedimixQC@us-concrete.com www.us-concrete.com M March 21, 2016 To: Calhar Construction Project: Tohatsu America-Coppell RE: Submittal Provisions Enclosed you will find the necessary submittal documents for the referenced project above for your review. Redi-Mix’s strength guarantee per ASTM C94 will not be effective unless the field sampling has been done per ASTM C172 and ASTM C31 and the laboratory testing fully complies with ASTM C39 and ASTM C1077. Redi-Mix will also guarantee the strength performance of the mix designs submitted for a concrete temperature between 55°F and 95°F provided the design plastic properties are not exceeded and the concrete is placed within 90 minutes of batch time. This concrete temperature range shall not supersede any more restrictive temperature specification. All concrete should be placed and cured with the appropriate ACI guidelines and recommendations for hot and cold weather concreting. Redi-Mix cannot be responsible for non-conformance of strength if cylinders are not cured per ACI 301, section 1.6.3.2.d. Hot weather concreting practices will require the purchaser to order ice and/or chilled water to meet concrete temperature specifications. The purchaser shall be responsible for precautions taken against excessive wind, heat and low humidity per ACI 305 guidelines. The purchaser shall assume responsibility for any concrete defects related to the finishing process (cracking, scaling, dusting, delamination, discoloration, etc.), which is beyond Redi-Mix’s control. This includes proper preparation, compaction and wetting of subgrade as well as proper spacing and depth of joints and rebar. During periods of cold weather, all concrete surfaces should be protected from freezing for at least the first 24 hours after placement to allow the concrete to attain a compressive strength of 500 psi. Should the purchaser elect not to order temperature control measures, the purchaser shall then assume all liability for costs associated with rejected concrete due to non-compliant concrete temperature. According to ACI 304.2R Section 4.2.1 “Placing Concrete by Pumping Methods”, the inside diameter of the hose should be a minimum of 3 times the maximum angular aggregate size of the concrete. (ASTM C33 allows #57LS to have up to 5% retained on the 1” sieve). It is recommended to minimize or eliminate the free fall of concrete to avoid loss of air content. Depending on boom configurations, alterations to the mix design may be required. With regard to pumped concrete, the various boom configurations, length of hose, line reductions and free fall distance are beyond Redi-Mix’s control and we therefore cannot be responsible for loss of air content or any costs associated with either rejected fresh concrete or the removal and replacement of hardened concrete due to non-compliant air content resulting from this or from placing concrete outside of the slump range specified on the mix design. We thank you for allowing us to submit these documents for your review. Please copy Redi-Mix with the approved submittal. The approved submittal allows Redi-Mix to review any notes, comments or exceptions made by the engineer or owner relating to the specification. Failure to notify us prior to first placement shall constitute acceptance of the submitted mix designs and submittal provisions. Please order by mix number when scheduling concrete delivery. We request that Redi-Mix be added to the list of names receiving copies of testing laboratory information for this project. ASTM C94 entitles a manufacturer to receive copies of all test reports when strength of concrete is used as a basis for acceptance. This information is another tool for Redi-Mix to review and monitor the quality and performance of the concrete product delivered. In the event of limited material availability, substitution of a similar performing material may be required. All substituted materials will meet the appropriate ASTM requirements. In order to maintain the required mix volume, weights of individual materials may be varied to accommodate different material specific gravities. Material certifications for substituted materials are available upon request. The information within this submittal is confidential and the exclusive property of Redi-Mix. It shall not be disseminated to third parties without written permission from Redi-Mix Concrete. Please contact Technical Services with any questions at (817) 835-4186. DESCRIPTION Fritz-Pak Super Air Plus is a dry powdered admix- ture, packaged in patented ready-to-use water-sol- uble bags or in bulk (50 lb bags). Super Air Plus is recommended for all types of air entrained concrete when an increase in entrained air content is neces- sary. Super Air Plus may also be used as a primary air-entraining admixture. Super Air Plus is compat- ible with all standard concrete admixtures. DIRECTIONS 1. If entrained air content is below the specifi ed level, determine which Air Plus product is required. (See Recommended Dosage Rate). 2. Each Super Air Plus package is double bagged. Remove the protective outer bag and add the water- soluble Fritz-Pak inner bag to plastic concrete. The entire inner bag will easily dissolve. 3. Mix at high speed for 5 to 7 minutes to insure that the Super Air Plus is uniformly dispersed throughout the mix. 4. If entrained air content remains below specifi ed levels, more Super Air Plus may be added. RECOMMENDED DOSAGE RATE FOR CONCRETE: Super Air Plus. For larger increases in entrained air content, use one 8-oz bag (227 g) of Super Air Plus to increase the entrained air content for a full load of concrete by ¾ to 2%. For use as a primary air- entraining admixture, a Super Air Plus dosage rate of 0.25 to 1.25 oz./cwt. (0.15 to 0.80 g/kg) is recom- mended to achieve 5 to 7% entrained air content. Cementitious content, concrete temperature, ambi- ent temperature or concrete mixes containing ac- celerators, retarders, or special admixtures such as superplasticizers or silica fume may require dosage rates outside the recommended range. Contact your Fritz-Pak distributor with any questions concerning the dosage rates for these products. It is recom- mended that testing be done to determine the suit- ability of Super Air Plus to your mix designs. FOR ONE YARD TRAILER MIXERS: Use specially packaged product in 4 oz. water-solu- ble bags. (Item #95661). FOR MORTARS AND DRY BLENDED PRODUCTS: Super Air Plus can be used as an air entraining agent for the production of mortars and other dry blended materials. Up to 16% air entrainment can be obtained with Super Air Plus. Air contents vary considerably depending on the materials used. Use the following table as a guideline: Desired Air Content Dosage of Super Air Plus By weight of cement By total weight of blend 5-7%0.25-1.25 oz/cwt 0.15-0.80 g/kg 0.9-4.5 oz/ton 28-141 g/MT 7-10%1.0-4.0 oz/cwt 0.63-2.5 g/kg 5.0-12.0 oz/ton 156-375 g/MT 10-15%4.0-6.0 oz/cwt 2.5-3.75 g/kg 14.0-22.0 oz/ton 438-688 g/MT COMPATIBILITY Super Air Plus is compatible with all air-entraining admixtures, calcium chloride and other admixtures. What does increased air content do to concrete? A. It increases its durability by making it more resistant to damage from freezing. Q. Will it change the set time? A. No, it will not speed or slow the set. Q. What standards does Super Air Plus meet? A. They meet ASTM C-260, AASHTO M-154 and CRD C-13 standards. Q. Will it affect the strength of my concrete? A. It will not signifi cantly change strength, and it will increase durability. Q. What is the difference between Super Air Plus and Air Plus? A. Super Air Plus has twice the concentration of the active ingredient of Air Plus. Q. Which product should I use, Air Plus or Super Air Plus? A. Air Plus should be used by concrete producers who have very consistent quality in their supply of raw materials, thus only needing small corrections of air. Concrete producers that have variation in their quality of raw materials normally experience wider fl uctuations in air content and should consider using Super Air Plus. Q. What is the raw material used in the production of Super Air Plus? A. Vinsol Resin, a natural air entrainer. Q. Are these products compatible with synthetic air entrainers? A. Yes. Additionally the spacing and size of air bubbles is improved when natural air entrainers are used to correct synthetic air entrainers. Q. Can they be used in dry-blended materials like mortars and stuccos? A. Yes. See the recommended dosage rate chart. Q. Are Super Air Plus and Air Plus effective in concrete with fl y ash containing high levels of organic compounds (i.e. high LOI)? A. Yes. Natural air entrainers are more effective than synthetic air entrainers. Q. Can I add Super Air Plus or Air Plus to water to make a liquid admixture? A. No. Some of the components will only dissolve under special conditions of temperature and pH. Q. How long have the products been in the market? A. Since 1992.
