Air shall be introduced into the pipeline until a 4.0 Psi gauge pressure has been reached. At that time, the flow of air shall be reduced and the internal air pressure shall be maintained between 3.5 and 4.5 Psi gauge for at least two (2) minutes to allow the air temperature to come to equilibrium with the temperature of the pipe walls. Pressure in the pipe shall be constantly monitored by a gauge and hose arrangement separate from the hose used to introduce air into the line. Pressure in the pipe shall not be allowed to exceed 5 Psi. After the temperature has stabilized and no air leaks at the plugs have been found, the air pressure shall be used to determine the time lapse required for the air pressure to drop to 2.5 Psi gauge. If the time lapse required for the air pressure to decrease from 3.5 to 2.5 Psi exceeds that shown in the following table, the pipe shall be presumed to be within acceptable limits for leakage. If the time lapsed is less than that shown in the table, the contractor shall make corrections to reduce the leakage to acceptable limits. Install the vacuum tester head assembly at the top access of manhole. Attach vacuum pump to test head and start pump. Open inlet/outlet ball valve and evacuate the manhole to 10"Hg. (approximately negative 5 Psig, 0.3 bar) Close vacuum inlet/outlet ball valve and monitor vacuum for specified test period. Manhole # HG. PSIG.
