NCTCOG FOURTH EDITION STANDARD SPECIFICATIONSFrom: Mike Jones <mjones@tnponline.com> To: "Kenneth M. Griffin P. E. (Email)" <kmarvin@ci.coppell.tx.us> Date: 6/24/2004 2:45:37 PM Subject: NCTCOG FOURTH EDITION STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS Ken, Suzan and Keith, At our meeting on Tuesday, we briefly discussed using the latest edition of the NCTCOG Standard Specifications for the W. Sandy Lake Road project. I spoke with Ken Calhoun at COG this morning to confirm that the latest "official" edition is the fourth and not the third, since the fourth edition is currently only available online. He said that the fourth edition is officially the latest edition of the standard specifications, but that some cities were still using the third edition. He indicated that the transition to the fourth edition may be slower than usual because of the change in format. Based upon this information and our discussion on Tuesday, we are preparing the Contract Documents for the W. Sandy Lake Road project to reference the NCTCOG's Fourth Edition Standard Specifications. I think overall the fourth edition is very well done and is an improvement over the third edition; however, it will take a little time and experience for everyone (engineers, project inspectors and contractors) to get acquainted and become familiar with the new format. I am sure that everyone will be making this transition at some point, so from our standpoint this is as good of time as any. But I just wanted to confirm with you that this was the direction that you and your staff wanted to go. Please advise at your earliest convenience. The following is a link to NCTCOG's website where the new Fourth Edition specs can be viewed and downloaded. http://publicworks.nctcog.org/standardspecs/index.html Thanks, mike Michael A. Jones, P.E.
