Subject:RE: S. Belt Line Road - Draft Scope of Work
George,
We are working to address the City’s comments and finalize our fee estimate and over to you this week. I have a few
items that I need to get addressed to ensure that we are on the same page.
1. We will add a bullet point under Task 1 (30% Design) for a design charrette to be held upon completion of
survey, SUE and the traffic study. At the design charrette we will deliver a 10% design showing the proposed
pavement limits, left-turn lanes and median openings, sidewalks, and water/sewer locations.
2. Regarding lateral profiles. From a cursory review of the record drawings there is sufficient inlet capacity, and the
extent of storm drain improvements will be limited to replacing inlets and a few pipe segments for
reconnection. We are not including scope and fee to profile this type of connections unless there is a utility
conflict or a lateral replacement is greater than 50’. Any necessary lateral profiles would be included in the 90%
plans unless the City requires them at 70%.
3. Street capacity calculations are currently scope to be included with the 70% plans.
4. We recommend and are including scope and fee to profile existing storm drain trunk lines under pavement
(using record drawing and field survey information) to correct potential datum issues and show revised
hydraulic calculations.
5. City standard is 12’ lanes. The existing roadway has 11’ lanes. Please confirm that inside widening would be
acceptable. This would reduce the existing 24’ median to 18’ (excluding left-turn lanes)

Stephen,

Please see the attached comments on the documents.
In addition we would like to consider incorporating a re-design of the Traffic Signal at Belt Line Road and
Southwestern/Denton Tap. The City has a design done in-house but it would make sense to include in the
project. We probably would bid the signal as an alternate, depending on funds and possibly pull the design out
of the package for future use if necessary.
Also, we would like to discuss a possible design of a pre-fab monument like the one at Denton Tap and Sandy
Lake in the medians. See attached for general idea. We went with all the signs to be the same width in the end.
But the construction took so long that we would rather see a pre-fab option that could drop in place.
th
We would love to still make the 25 council meeting.
Thank You, George

George,
Wanted to follow up. We are continuing to work on developing our fees for the project. Do you know when
we’ll have comments on the scope?
Also, we want to make sure you have ample time to review our final scope and fees before everything is due for
th
City Council consideration. Are you still shooting for the April 25 Council meeting?
Thanks.

George,
See attached for our draft scope of work for the S. Belt Line Road project per our discussion last
Tuesday. Also attached are a few questions that we had while compiling the scope.
Let us know your comments to the scope and answers to these questions, and we can fine tune the
scope and begin developing our fees. Have a great day.

Stephen,
As discussed on the phone, we would like to schedule a scoping meeting with you and
your staff for the reconstruction of Belt Line Road from I-635 to the intersection of
Denton Tap, Southwestern and E. Belt Line.
thth
Monday and Tuesday the 13 and 14 of this month which will work for most of us. I
believe the following times are currently free:
Monday 10-11:45, 2:30-5pm and Tuesday 9:30-12, 2:30-5pm.
I believe we only need an hour but it will be a full hour.
Before the meeting we hope you can drive the corridor and observe the problems we
see today and at least have preliminary scoping in mind.
I will see about sending you files we currently have on the area.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call. Cell 469-964-4731.
Team, feel free to jump in, if you think I missed something.
Thanks, George
