Re:
Engineering Plans for Retaining Walls
Copper Stone Addition
City of Coppell, Texas
Falkofske Engineering, Inc. Job No. 111.94
Dear Mr. Clancy:
In reference to the request by the City of Coppell for additional information concerning the
design of retaining walls, as noted in their letter dated June 8, 1994 by Michael A. Martin,
E.I.T., I am providing the following information.
With regards to the metal posts supporting the wood fence at the top of the retaining wall, the
design of the metal post is the responsibility of the particular fence manufacture installing the
fence. Falkofske Engineering, Inc. has designed the retaining walls to resist the overturning
cause by wind pressure on the wall fence.
In reference to the questions about swimming pools being placed behind the wall, an additional
detail has been noted on Sheet Si. The base or foundation of the swimming pools, if they are
constructed in close proximity to the retaining walls, shall be such that the base of the
swimming pools is constructed below the zone of influence for the retaining walls. If there is
a need to construct the base or foundation for the swimming pools above the zone of influence
on the retaining walls, then the swimming pool foundation shall be either piered or Falkofske
Engineering, Inc. shall be notified to determine if the design of the retaining walls is adequate
to resist surcharge pressures from the pool.
Sincerely,
Doc. No. 11194.1
