The galvanized conduit, prior to plastic coating, shall k(""conform to Federal Specifications WW-C-581 E, ANSI Standard C80.1, UL Standard #6, and CSA Standard C22.2 //45. 2. The conduit shall be hot dip galvanized inside and out with galvanized threads. 3. The exterior galvanized surfaces shall be coated with a primer before coating to insure a bond between the zinc substrate and the PVC coating. 4. The bond on conduit and fittings shall be greater than the tensile strength of the plastic coating. 5. The PVC coating on the exterior of conduit shall be applied by the plastisol dip method. 6. Nominal thickness of the exterior coating is to be 40 mils except where pad configuration or application of the piece dictate otherwise. 7. A two part red urethane coating shall be applied to the interior of all conduit and fittings. This internal coating shall be applied at a nominal two rail thickness. 8. The urethane interior coating applied to the conduit shall afford sufficient flexibility to permit field bending without r,-,, cracking or flaking of the interior coating. 9. All hollow conduit fittings which serve as part of the raceway must be coated with an exterior PVC coating and red interior urethane coating as described above. 10. All male threads on conduit, elbows and nipples shall be protected by application of a urethane coating. 11. All female threads on fittings or conduit couplings shall be protected by application of a clear urethane coating. 12. The exterior PVC coating and the interior red urethane coating shall be factory applied by the same manufacturer. Coated conduit shall Conform to NEMA Standard No. RN1- 1986. 13. A PVC sleeve extending one pipe diameter or two inches, whichever is less, shall be formed at every female opening on fittings. The inside diameter of the sleeve shall be the same as the outside diameter of the conduit. 14. The PVC coating on the outside of conduit couplings shall have a series of longitudinal ribs 40 mils in thickness to protect the coating from damage during installation. 15. All Form 8 Condulets will be supplied with stainless steel screws which have been encapsulated with a polyester material on the head in order to assure maximum corrosion protection. 16. Right angle beam clamps and U bolts shall be specially formed and sized to snugly fit the outside diameter of the conduit. All "U" bolts will be supplied with PVC encapsulated nuts that cover all exposed portions of the threads. 17. Installation of the PLASTI-BOND RED Conduit System is to be performed in accordance with the ROBROY PLASTI-BOND Installation Manual. 18. Approved Material: PLASTI-BOND RED Coated Conduit as manufactured by ROBROY INDUSTRIES, Verona, Pennsylvania. Any deviation from the above specifications must be approved by the cognizant engineer. HARDNESS 85 + Shore A Durometer DIELECTRIC STRENGTH 400 Volts/Mil @ 60 Cycles AGING 1,000 hours Atlas Weatherometer TEMPERATURE The polyvinylchloride compound shall conform at 0°F to Federal Specifications LP-406b, Method 2051. Amendment 1 of 25 September 1952 (ASTMD-746) ELONGATION 200% FLAMMABILITY The PVC coating will burn if subjected to sustained flame or sustained heat above 400"F; however, it will self extinguish upon removal of the heat source or flame. TOXICITY Prolonged exposure to heat greater than 200°F or exposure to fire may cause the PVC coating to release harmful emissions which could pose a potential health hazard. Therefore PVC is not recommended in areas exposed to sustained tempera- tures above 200'F. If exposed to fire, padicularly in closed areas, proper caution should be observed. BONDING TEST Two parallel cuts 1/2 inch apart and 11/2 inch in length shall be made with a sharp knife along the longitudinal axis. A third cut shall be made perpendicular to and crossing the longitudi- nal cuts at one end. The knife shall then be worked under the PVC coating for 1/2 inch to free the coating from the metal. Using pliers, the freed PVC tab shall be pulled with a force applied vertically and away from the conduit. The PVC tab shall tear rather than any additional PVC coating separating from the substrate. NOTE: PVC coated conduit and fittings with the unique red interior coating are the trademark of ROBROY iNDUSTRIES INC. In direct operation, the load relay is energized when the liquid contacts the upper electrode, or Unifloat® reed switch, and electrode current is flow- ing. In inverse operation, the load relay is energized when the liquid falls below the lower electrode, or Unifloat® reed switch, and current ceases to flow. GROUND CONNECTIONS In all installations, a good external ground connection and a dependable return circuit to the liquid are required. ("""~'~ most instances, grounding to a metal pipe leading to the tank is suita- ble, but electrical conduit should not be used for this purpose. If a good ground connection to the liquid is not available, an additional ground electrode is required. When used, the ground electrode should ex- tend slightly below the longest operat- ing electrode. In addition, it is also desirable to ground the relay chassis directly to ground terminal or through a relay mounting screw. ELECTRODE LEAD WIRES Shielded cable is not required, and or- dinary insulated wire can be used for electrode leads. Lead wires should be isolated from, not run in the same conduit with, power and load carrying circuits to avoid direct coupling with these circuits. While capacitance of the lead wire to ground has some slight affect on sensitivity, this factor """"Red only be considered when relay is jcated more than 900 feet away from electrodes. Such installations include boiler feed and condensate return systems, hydropneumatic tanks, and various types of chemical processing equipment, etc. Whenever possible, these holders should be mounted in a vertical posi- tion through the top of the tank with the electrodes extending downward to the desired operating levels. For applications requiring flange mounting B W offers companion flanges in 2". 3", or 4" sizes made of cast iron or 304 SS. See Catalog Sention 7014 page 8. 6012, ~ CI- 1 CATALOG //~ECTION C!
