SPECIFICATION DATA
SHP Waterstops are predsion engineered for
vertical and horizontal expansion joints between
cast-in-place concrete units where conditions
may subject the concrete to hydro-static pressure
or moisture seepage...They are manufactured
with the highest quality PVC to provide the
strongest tensile strength and elongation
capabilities possible with a superior resistance to
alkalis, acids, ozone and waterborne chemicals.
SMP's complete line of shapes and sizes
assures a long, lasting, water-right seal for every
above or below grade concrete comaion...
They do not discolor concrete, nor do they pro-
duce or support electrolytic action with meal
structures nearby or with embedded rebar steel.
SMP Waterstops maintain their integrity
indefinitely...They are the premium
choice for strength, impertne-
ability and elongation.

Many different factors have determined the engineering and design of SMP Waterstops. Each is
a product that must serve a specific set of on-job demands_the requirements of water pressure,
reinforcement location within the concrete in relation to the joint, temperature extremes, aggregate
size and mix, spedal chemical requirements and the many other imperatives of concrete
construaion.
SMP Waterstops are manufactured to the most exacting engineering and comtmaion standards:

FITTINGS AND SPLICES
Many job sped~cations require that some connections of RC Waterstop
be pre-fabricated and pre-tested under stria controls at our factory_When
Elbows, Tees and other fittings of this type are ordered separately from
the factory, only butt splices are required for job site installation.
When SMP fittings are spedfled you can be certain that the joinis
in the Waterstop are strong and re-inforced, not a weak point in the
system...All SMP fittings are cut to the precise dimensions your drawings
spedfy, then welded with the very same Waterstop for exra strength and
maximum bond.

On-the-job Splicing of SMP PVC Waterstop:
I) For predsely matched edges, cut the end of SHP WC Waterstop with
a sharp w_or knife or a drcular saw blade with carbide tips (use a I0'
blade with 40 teeth).
2) Pre-heat your splidng iron to 375 degrees and then place it between
the butt ends until the PYC becomes soft enough to build a strong bead
of about I/4' or 3/16".
3) Set the splidng iron aside and hold the Waterstop ends steady until the
bend is securely set...The material sets firm a bit quicker with a spray or
a dip in water to cool the splice. Without the water coolant, a strong set
splice usually requires about 60 seconds.
4) Always miter Waterstop ends at 45 degree angle when you fabricate
Ells, Crosses or Tees. This will assure that you mainlain the integrity and
the continuity of the center bulb and the ribs to give you the strongest
joint possible.
Safety Caution: Do not inhale the fumes emitted when you splice
SMP PVC Waterstop with a hot splidng iron. Some of the fumes are toxic
Splice only in an adequately ventilated area.
